One feature I think could be neat in Dust is the ability to shut the gates.
Switches somewhere inside each socket that control the opening and closing gated entrances.
Either pulls up an actual wall, or energy shield to block the entrance.
Then you could fortify the remaining doors and try to watch out for dropships, uplinks being snuck inside, sneaky people trying to open the switch to breach the main entrance with a tank, or LAV's flying over the walls from small hills

I really like the idea as long as there is a second way of opening and closing the door besides the one button. It sounds like you're suggesting a tank could maybe just destroy the door which also sounds really great.
Doors with HP bars that can be taken out with explosives and AV weapons would be interesting too. |

Would be a little overpowered, you would need a hacking panel outside to allow you to hack it down!! But prehaps it might just work! |

Well there's already several ways to get in without using air, even if you removed the main entrances of each large socket.
There could be like a power generator somewhere to destroy that removes shields too, idk. just something to add to some bloody strategy already. |

I dont blame you, more tactics is always nice, however after .5 I imagine you could achieve something similar with an armour tank, just be sure to keep his ammo stocked!! |
