Instead of just watering down weapons, can you divy out some of the role of the AR to something like the laser? Just like you sometimes think 'I wish I had a swarm launcher right now!' it'd be good if you thought 'I wish I had a laser right now!'
Just watering down the AR doesn't make anyone wish they had X, it just waters down something and the various groups ***** and moan about who's still the most poweful in a big passive aggressive circle.
There really is no point just toning the AR back, because in the end the only way people will be happy is if all weapons are pretty much toned back to being the same dang thing as each other and as bland as hell.
Atleast lets have some other weapon (perhaps the laser, perhaps the scrambler) get more of a specific role where it kicks ass the most, like a swarmie kicks ass in a particular role. Don't just turn the AR down.

I'm confused. Do you want another weapon to be the "new AR" if they nerf the AR? Because that would likely still be the AR because it's very easy to use, maybe the AScR if it gets nerfed into the ground, but probably not the Laser.
Thing is, people are always going to stick to the AR like leeches on someone's leg unless the thing gets absolutely wrecked(it won't, but people will act like it did though, just like they do about the flaylock pistol(which is still a good weapon BTW, just not OP as **** like it used to be)). People will still use it because it is called the Assault Rifle, and because like I said before, the thing is easy to use.
I personally think that if CCP changed the name of the AR to something else(Ion Carbine is my favorite so far) reduced its range, and increased its damage output to make up for the reduced range, it would be fixed. It wouldn't be nerfed really, just... changed. It would actually be in a pretty good place still and would better fit with the Gallentean combat philosophy.
The name change would stop all the newberries from flocking to it because of its name, and encourage use of the other weapons in the game at the same time. |

Whenever I pull something out that isn't a laser I inevitably come across situations where I wished I had a laser.
