Mercenary's Log Stardate: 0112013-9
(PART 1)
It was just another day in the EVE Online universe. Pick a public match. Join it. Dominate. Obtain victory. The usual endeavors. Nothing special. There are a couple of events that are hosted by CCP Corp every now and then, but nothing more. It's the norm in DUST 514. Mercenaries looking to get by rally up cash by fighting pointless battles with so-called "immortality". People with different ideals and beliefs declare war against each other in a stupid attempt to prove that they're better than the other. And some just do it to get noticed. I could care less about what happens in this war. As long as I get my money and the skills necessary, what happens in this war, be it a merc or a corporation, doesn't matter to me. This war is nothing more than something someone started in order to get puppets for a sick and twisted way of entertaining himself.
So be it. I've got the tools. I've got the knowledge. I've got the equipment. I've got a hunch that has proven itself more often than not. These battles I get sucked into.....I'll just fight my way out like I always do. As skeptic and narcissistic as I am, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. But as every experienced mercenary should know, there is always that one battle. The battle where things get intense. The battle where everything is on the line.
The battle where everything that could go wrong.........does.
It was a Skirmish battle.
The mission: hack the objectives to activate missile controls and use them to take down the enemy MCC (Mobile Command Center). One by one, we were deployed onto the battlefield. Some by means of dropping down in the air from our own MCC, others from the Clone Reanimation Unit from which is the most popular way of respawning- well, besides Drop Uplinks. People abuse those things like no tomorrow nowadays. Ah, quite the restless generation. Anyway, some fellow mercenaries went on foot while others deployed vehicles. I put on my "Hacker" Scout G-1, a Light class dropsuit I've tailored specifically for hacking. It's not a dropsuit you can find on the market. You are, after all, given the option of naming your dropsuit, correct? It was quite fragile- the weakest Scrambler Pistol could finish me in a couple of shots. But it was a very light fitting, built for speed and stealth which was crucial if you planned on working from the shadows. I also had it equipped with a CRG-3 Shotgun, a powerful close-range weapon that can carry eight rounds at a time before each reload. Very useful if I found someone from the opposition getting any "bright ideas". I also had it equipped with Drop Uplinks for fellow mercs to assist me, in case the enemy was persistent. When I arrived on the field, I called for a Saga, a 4WD land vehicle, and jumped right in it as soon as it arrived.
I sped off towards to closest station, trying to get to Objective "E" as fast as I can. Whenever I put on the "Hacker" Scout G-1, I had a habit of assuming I was the best hacker on the team. In fact, I often felt like I was doing most of the work though I had fellow mercs on the team to aid me. "Team"...............that word is abused quite a lot, isn't it......On the way, Objective "E" had already been secured by some mercs on our side. I can't say I wasn't relieved. I would be lying if I did. It seemed like we had a lead on them..........at least for the moment. As I made my way to Objective "B" (and successfully hacked it, I might add), the opposition and already taken Objectives" A", "C", and "D". They had the lead as soon as the battle started. My heart was racing. The fear of what could happen set in fast. But I had to keep my wits about me, as losing my mind would not help. I made a mad sprint for Objective "C" hoping nobody would spot me. I ran up the set of stairs as fast as I could as I made my way there. As I neared the objective, adrenaline began to fill my mind as my heart raced even more. I stood right in front of it. I began hacking Objective "C". It was a very intense moment. It was scary. I was right in the middle of enemy territory. Funny how the fear of death still lingers even with all these CRU's and "immortality". If the CRUs were destroyed, we wouldn't be "immortal" anymore. Stupid scientists and their pride. The hacking process was almost complete. For a second, I actually thought I would succeed. Then from out of nowhere, multiple shots of searing pain ran through my body. Everything started to go dark as I fell to the ground. My body began to shut down. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought outside the box, after all.
Darkness fell over me. It was cold. Then, as if I was in a spaceship center in hyperdrive, my consciousness was speeding through what appeared to be a highly luminous stream. It was quite remarkable. All my memories, my experiences, my feelings, my entire lifetime.....I saw it all in a flash. My eyes then opened wide. It was almost as if everything that happened before now was a dream- a really long dream. As I came to, I realized I was in my new body. I then remembered that there was a war going on. With the same dropsuit I had on before, I rushed right into battle. I headed back to Objective "C" as fast as I could......and got shot a second time. I felt like an idiot. I went back for third time, and one of the fellow mercs on my team was heading in the same direction. He took care of one of the guy that was causing trouble and began hacking, but he got shot in the process. I capped him with my CRG-3 Shotgun. As I turned around, another merc on the team began hacking the enemy console. I assisted him and we successfully took Objective "C". At this point, Objective "A" was taken by our fellow mercs, as well as Objective "D". Eventually, we had all the angles covered. I guess I was not carrying the stable by myself, after all. But this was only a prelude to an even greater struggle........ |

(PART 2)
We were in deep trouble. They quickly took our objectives with the exception of Objective "A". They were dead set on taking it from us. We fought back with everything we had, as did they. Mass Drivers, Heavy Machine Guns Flaylock Pistols, Assault Rifles, Scrambler weapons. It was indescribably bloody.........you couldn't even make try to imagine it. They took our Supply Depot, and we fought hard to get it back. I was killed several times trying to defend it.
.............So what happened then?
Unfortunately, I do not remember all the details of what happened at this point in the battle. The reason for this, most likely, is due to the fact that while your consciousness is being transferred to your new body, your memories transfer to it simultaneously. In every clone unit, there is a hollow artificial brain with no memory stored on it. It has all the functions of a regular brain, but it is built with special "enhancements" to raise awareness levels and critical thinking to superhuman levels. All of a person's neuralgic coding- personality, memories, likes, dislikes-are stored on this artificial brain. However, this comes at a cost: not everything is carried over. According to research reports, some mercenaries have gotten a case of amnesia while others have nothing but memories of the lives they've taken. Even worse, there have also been reports of mercenaries' everyday mental functions going completely haywire, causing them to go completely insane or go through a series of mood swings, the most common mood being depression. The Clone Reanimation process is not perfect.
......I was told by my commissioners that I had a family. A wife and two kids, a boy and a girl. Death by arsenal. Apparently, the reason I even went to war in the first place was because of them. They never told me what the reason was. But I can't remember anything about them. Not a thing.
Could they be lying to me? Who were they? How were they important to me? And why? Who would want them dead? Did someone want revenge on me? Was I the one who killed them? Why were they the reason I am doing this? Did I want to protect them? Were we running low on cash at the time? Was I a hero to them?
.......I just don't know.
The opposition started to get restless. They pulled out a lot of heavy artillery. Tanks, vehicles, locus grenades.......they pulled out all the stops. Eventually, the only objective we were left with was Objective "E". I can't tell you the number of deaths I experienced. It seemed as if it was all over for us. But then a miracle happened. Someone on our side managed to hack Objective "D". Then Objective "B", as well as Objective "A". Objective "C" was the only one they had left. Needless to say, we brought the thunder.
We brought them down hard. We took Objective "C". They started to get jumpy. Planting Drop Uplinks right outside the vicinity we were in, they attempted to push us back an regain Objective "C". I snuck behind a couple of them and pulled out a GEK-20 Assault Rifle and managed to get one of them but the others managed to down me. However, someone behind me took down the one who shot me and the third one I didn't notice was with them. It was a Godsend when I saw he had a Nanite Injector. He revived me and I was back in the fight. There's not much else to say.............
At that point, it was over. We were the victors............
I breathed a sigh of relief as I returned to my quarters. It was finally over. Even though there was a seemingly infinite number of battles ahead, I did not hesitate to enjoy this moment of respite. It was temporary, after all. It wouldn't be long before I received another assignment. And as if it was reading my mind, the DSC (DropSuit Cellular) began ringing. I had no choice but to answer........sadly.........
"Hello?"
"Mr. Roamero. It's been quite sometime."
I knew that voice instantly.
"Comissioner Ravenrir, what a surprise." (I should probably mention that I was being sarcastic when I said that.)
"Look, I know you've been looking forward to vacation. But Roy Ventus from the Foxhound Corporation put in a squad invite for you. He says he could use your help."
"Tell him I'm busy."
"Doing what?"
".........."
"Well?"
I knew had nothing to say at this point.
".....*sigh*......All right, all right. I was starting to get bored, anyways. What's the assignment?"
"Ambush OMS. Standard protocol. You know the drill."
"Tell him I'll be there as fast as I can."
I hung up the phone. Roy Ventus of the Foxhound Corporation.........haven't heard from in a while now that I think about it. The Foxhound Corporation (the inspiration for that name is obvious) is dedicated to helping small squads and corps get a little pick-up if they're looking to grow or find more members. I actually got a message from him saying he'd help out. He was a pretty cool guy. Come to think of it, the only reason I even thought of making my corp bigger in the first place was because Ialthough I had members I never see them. They rarely showed up at all, in fact. So in actuality, I was technically a one-man corporation. I still am.
........Oh well. It's not that big a deal. I just need to get my rank up is all. Looking back on it now, it was hard back then. It's still pretty hard, actually. But....I think I've gotten used to it. It's not that hard. Well, Roy Ventus is waiting. I'd better hurry up and meet him.

WOW........
I didn't expect one of the devs to respond.......... Cool!!!!
Well, I just thought I'd post this. It's based off of a battle I participated in once. I just figured I'd turn it into a war story. As for posting it in a blog or website......that's not a bad idea since I'm planning on having one. It has a purpose, though. And that's a secret.
Well, when I get the chance I'll post another. Maybe I'll even put it into a YouTube video or something. |

Mercenary's Log Stardate: 0282013-9
(PART 1)
In my countless years of being a mercenary, I can boldly say without hesitation that I have seen everything. I have seen the stupidity and futility of it all. The ideals, the fame, the fortune, the promises of a better future......it simply does not end. Mercenaries are used as "recyclable" pawns to fulfill orders given by the so-called "righteous" people and are considered nothing more than cannon fodder for selfish gain. The media always portray how great it is to be a "hero" in this war. They sugarcoat the truth with fantasy and unrealistic imagination. They turn death into children's tales, forever hiding the cruel realities that lie beneath the surface. But I know the truth. I know the fate of those who walk this path, as I myself continue to walk it.
The life of a mercenary is a fool's path.
We are slaves to fate, forced to endure the seemingly infinite number of trials that are pushed upon us. We are nothing but a shadow of what we once were. Everything we left behind- family, friends, loved ones, possessions.....our safe haven- everything from our past lives.....we have no choice but to leave it in the past. We can never return there again. It is nothing more than a dream now. We can only towards the dark future that awaits. The only thing that can possibly free us from this terrible destiny......is the heat of battle.
The thrill of it. The tension you feel. The notion that you just might die. It is the only thing that puts us at ease in this twisted war..........and ease our easily twisted minds.
- - - - - - - - -
Federation Customs hired a group of mercs to take down the opposition to be hired by the Serpentis Corporation. I was one of mercs hired by the Federation. It wasn't just to earn more skill points and money, however. I was looking for something more. Something that mere profit and skill advancement simply could not temper. One may think of me as a twisted person. I don't care: this whole war and everyone in it
As soon as the Ambush OMS started, I died almost as soon as I entered. (This is not the battle in which Roy Ventus requested my help.) Unfortunately, my death was not by enemy fire. I had an EXO-5 Mass Driver in my hands. I saw the enemy and planned to sneak up on them from behind. Nobody had spotted me or was suspecting me. It was the perfect sneak attack. I was ready to dominate the battlefield. I ran out of my hiding spot. It was my time to shine. I pulled the trigger..........and killed myself. I was standing in front of a metal crate when I fired the MD. Words cannot describe my humiliation. I respawned from the CRU in a new dropsuit hoping to redeem myself, but by the time I got there they were already disposed of. I was disappointed. The thrill I so counted on to relieve me of this cruel fate.......I needed it- badly. I need to keep myself sane somehow. I needed it. I wanted it. Then things took a turn. The enemy started to take the high ground. They were shooting from the windows and the rooftops, as well as the staircases. Luckily for me, I had my GK-13 Burst Assault Rifle equipped.
Because it got my heart pumping..........just what I needed. |

(PART 2)
It was quite the intense battle, indeed. While we fought the enemy from the ground, they proceeded to fight us from the rooftops and other sources of high ground. Some were even shooting from inside: they took up an entire building. They held their ground pretty well......
Too bad it wasn't enough.
As I has had my GK-13 Burst Assault Rifle equipped, it was a simple game of ducking in and out of cover. I picked some targets and either shot them in silence. I was spotted by a few and they even attempted to stop me, but I managed to help keep their "morale" at a minimum while my fellow mercs when all out against the opposition. I wish there were spectators to see it. (Come to think of it......I wonder if CCP Corp ever thought about "spectating" other mercs for this war......or even a "tournament"...it would be good. Well, whatever.) It was quite a close call when they tried to blow me up with Locus Grenades. I managed to hide in the corner next to me and avoid the explosion, but unfortunately the one next to me was not so lucky. He was blown to bits right in front of me...........I felt bad. But I had to keep pushing onward. I will admit, though- I was glad I was not caught in that explosion. I went right back to shooting my GK-13 BAR and managed to get some kills in, though I mostly got kill assists or drove back the snipers in hiding.
At that moment, I spotted from the corner of my eye someone with a light dropsuit making a mad sprint to get the drop on us from behind. I cannot remember the weapon he was carrying, nor do I know exactly what the weapon was as he was quite far away. But from the look of I think I saw, it was either a Shotgun or a Mass Driver. I knew he would be problem. I quickly equipped my Assault Scrambler Pistol and rushed over to meet him where he would arrive. The excitement got my blood pumping. He didn't suspect a thing. I started shooting as soon as I saw him. It was a fast-paced moment as we both tried to finish off the other, and I managed to damage him pretty good. But then came a problem: my pistol ran out of ammo. He still had a bit of health left. I can't remember how much I had- I was too busy trying to not to get shot up. The only weapon I had in my disposal was my BAR. While it did have plenty of ammo to spare, I was still a bit nervous. The excitement was still there, but the notion that I was too ambitious was weighing heavily on me. I was nervous because of the weapon I had no choice but to use. While the Burst Assault Rifle has a lot of ammo to spare, it wasn't actually built for frontline-fire. Rather, it was built for stealth and chipping away the ignorant target's health while still conserving ammo. It has rapid-fire, but it's semi-automatic; and because of the fact that it fires in short bursts, the target, if aware of your presence or in direct conflict with you, can finish you off by just wasting ammo. He had an advantage......but I couldn't just run away either. I pulled out my BAR. I fired one burst.....and he was done. I was relieved. I must confess that there was a chance that someone on our side may have also noticed the intruder trying to get the drop on us. When I went to stop the intruder, I noticed for a split second that he seemed to be dealing with someone already. I don't know if he survived the fight or not. But one thing is certain: if it wasn't for that person, I probably wouldn't have survived that bout. Whoever it was, I owe that person a great deal. I salute you.
I ran back to my position and went back to supporting from the background. After a short while, the opposition was weakened. I rushed in to help finish them.......I don't remember much after that. I was creamed by some unknown enemy. But this is where things really began to heat up. I pulled out my Gallente Light ropsuit. It was tailored with extra shielding and a Profile Damper. Equipped with a EXO-5 Mass Driver, Nova Knives, C-7 Flux Grenades, and a Repair Tool, I have created a fragile-but-formidable dropsuit with all-around capabilities.

(PART 3)
We went straight for their CRU. Once again, a "moment" where war truly ensues had occurred. Both sides were intended to finish off the other. And it all took place within the vicinity of a Clone Reanimation Unit. I pulled out my EXO-5 and started shooting wildly, blowing them up s much as I possibly could- for the most part. I died a couple of times, but I got my revenge on them. I felt like a boss. My fellow mercs did the same, surrounding the CRU with gunfire. We were going hard on them as we waited for our enemies to respawn and finished them as soon as they appeared. It was quite satisfying. When finished having our fun, we hacked their CRU so our fellow mercs could respawn and help us attain victory. We searched for the remaining mercs of the opposition. Out of nowhere I was attacked from behind. I managed to get to cover before I was finished off and waited until the coast was clear. Someone on my side took him down and I went back to what I was doing.
I shot one enemy who was unaware of my presence. That was it. Game Over. We won.
There's not much else to say. I could add more to this story, but then I would be a liar as well, sugarcoating death with fantasy and illusion. I will not allow myself to resort to that. I shall forever remain truthful: as with this story, I will hold back nothing as long as I live.

Mercenary's Log Stardate 0122013-2
Whenever I see a new set of faces entering the war, I ask myself: "How long will it take for them to rage quit after putting up with constant loss?" Most of us- if not all of us- have faced a tremendous amount of death when we first started out as mercs. And if there is anyone who has blazed through their beginning and convoked themselves that they're big shots, I can't wait to see their faces when they have their first Trial. Any mercenary who has faced a tremendous amount of death should know what the Trial is. I know it all too well. I have taken part in this war since the Beta Ages..................
Simply put, Trial was the part of at least 95% of the mercs that have entered this war were forced to endure. It's where you had to face countless amounts of blood, death, and turmoil. You would die so many times you could make a whole rant on it just about how bad it was, even to the point of blaming the entire solar system for something that you either did or didn't do when they didn't have anything to do with it. It didn't matter how much skill you had with a weapon. It didn't matter how experienced you were in the Art of FPS- your straight-A grades in the FPS genre don't mean a thing even now. If you didn't go through Trial, you weren't even considered a soldier. In fact, people saw you as just another guy with "spirit". And if you had absolutely no experience, it was even worse. Way......WAY worse...........
......................I was still a member of the Gallente Strike Force. It was been three months after my Trial.

Calm down, SuNao. He will tell us when he is ready.
I will agree, though. The suspense is killing me. |

DAT CLIFFHANGER
(PART 2)
"Hello, General Tannen. Yes, it has been quite some time." Commissioner Herald and General Tannen have known each other since childhood. I don't know all the details, but from what I've heard they used to train together as boys. Grew up in the same camp when they were still young mercs. The typical stuff. "Man, I still remember when we used to prank the noobs back in the day. The looks on their faces, Herald." "Yep. I gave the push, and you shoved it down their throats. Good times."
I know what you're thinking: "If they're such good friends, why do I hate him?" That about right?
(STILL NOT FINISHED YET. DON'T WORRY, I HAVEN'T STOPPED WRITING!!! I JUST HAVE A LIFE. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A GUESS ON WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, POST YOUR OPINIONS! WHO EVER GUESSES RIGHT FIRST WILL RECEIVE 900,000 ISK AS A FREE FUNDING PRIZE. YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF GIVING OTHER PLAYERS MONEY......SO, YEAH.)
