I firmly believe that DUST will have it's own production for its suits and mods, and the building blocks of a production system are a mining system. there will be both strip mining the surface, and going down into tunnels for rarer minerals in my grand vision, and a role for both Dropsuits and Vehicles.
Some of these are named by which slot they will take as opposed to how they function. I will think of better names for these later.
Skills ORE Dropsuit Command. Unlocks Medium at I, Assault at II, Pilot and Logi at III, Commando and Scout at IV, Sentinel and Command at V. There will be no Light or Heavy because having all these 'basic' suits is wasteful fluff.
ORE Vehicular Command. Unlocks ORE LAVs at I, ORE Dropships at II, ORE MAVs at III, ORE HAV at V
ORE Dropsuits. ORE Sentinel, which can equip a Heavy Miner, basically a Forge Gun pre-AV modification. Plenty of High slots for Yield Modifiers. ORE Medium, the 'Basic' suit. Can equip Light Miner for decent yields. No real slots to speak of. ORE 'Assault' (I'll think of a better name later), the tankier one. This suit is a dual miner/bodyguard, and can equip the Breaching Grenade to punch out walls and make shortcuts for the Sentinels. ORE Logistics, the hauler. No Light slot, just a sidearm and two equipment slots, but it excels at low slots for storage mods. Equip slots are for 'ore transfer' to pick up mined ore, and 'Mining Hives' to resupply Miner tools onsite. ORE Scout, the Spec Ops. Remember Mercoxit mining? Scouts mine out those devilish minerals in hard-to-reach nooks, and clean up the hazardous materials. They get the Sidearm Miner. ORE Command, a Rorqual on legs. They get the specialized equipment slot tools Mining Scanner and Mining Links. A grenade slot Mining Drone to either assist in yield or boost the abilities of nearby miners would also be prudent. ORE Commando, the T2 Miner. It can equip two Light Miners at once, allowing it to swap between them as an Exhumer would crystals. This role may need to be revised if live ammo swaps become a 'thing.' ORE Pilot, the ORE Vehicle buffer. Gives yield bonuses to the ORE vehicles.
ORE Vehicles. ORE LAVs, meant to shuttle around and scan out ore deposits and do cursory mining. Can equip a Light Miner Turret. ORE Dropships, meant to mine out minerals up on mountainous terrain or on cliff faces. Can equip a Medium Miner Turret. ORE MAV. Meant to shuttle ORE Dropsuits from site to site, ore from site to storage, and provide a command role to the ORE Vehicles. I may be overburdening the MAV juuuuuuust a bit. Can equip two Light Miner Turrets. ORE HAV. Unrivaled yield, moves at potato speed. May equip one Heavy Mining Turret and two Light Mining Turrets.
Mining Weaponry. Most will have the usual variations, standard for any ore, and a special variant for almost each ore type, there may be some differences between the handheld and turreted devices. The Sidearm ones will be an entirely different set of minerals due to their specialized nature.
How to keep mining interesting. People come up with ideas on EVE mining interactivity daily, but none can be featured in EVE due to the design of the game. A system I think would work is that the mining tool has an overheat and a long seize duration. You have to search on ore deposits for sweet spots, the higher your efficiency, the less heat accumulates. In lore terms, the Miner is built to harvest ore, and rocks of a composition it isn't designed for (useless stone, for example) overtax it. If you can't keep up with finding sweetspots you suffer the seize, preventing people from just taping down the fiire button and walking off. The Scout will have a different minigame, where the focus is precision. They won't have any kind of timing restraint, speed will only allow them to get from one block to the next faster. If they fail at mining the volatile ore, it detonates, doing severe damage to the Scout and other nearby miners.
Gonna work on smoothing out the ideas here, and I'm taking any good ones you post in the comments (with credit of course), so expect the OP to edit often. |

Where are we supposed to mine? Would we get mining contracts? Or would we have to do it while doing some PvE missions? I think this is hard to manage without having an open world. |

I think this is hard to manage without having an open world. I would say a mix of the two, you get a contract then pirates begin to raid your operation. Same thing with any industrial contracts-áwhere you make something and deliver it to the objective but, you're ambushed by pirates.
P.S. it doesn't just have to be pirates it could be drones, Sansha(?), Jove(?), or another enemy |

Personally I'm hoping for a mix as well. Allow some free-reign around the districts we own or the planet we have our offices on. Mining Contracts creating instanced mining areas also wouldn't be a bad idea, but it would make PvP actions trickier than an open world environment would. |

Could you please post with content a bit more often? I can understand why less patient clones, the kind who suicide in public areas, are quite irritated with you. :c |

I rather be fighting over a mining facility. That catapults is mining packages into space. Every oh say minute whoever has control of the facility the canister is launched to their war barge in orbit. Free for all by squad. So 6 squads max.
Majority control points would work too. |

I clicked the link, it was not content. It was a parody and offered nothing to the thread besides like harvesting. |

That's fine and all, but isn't that just us protecting someone's PI installations as opposed to DUST side mining? That'd be like reinstating Drone Poop because people can't be arsed to pick up a Miner, and would quash any ideas of DUST mining. |

Actually it was really quite close to what was suggested. Game wise. |

It added nothing to the thread beyond attempting to harvest likes from the anti-mining crowd. I would appreciate it if you state in clear, concise terms your issues with something rather than post a parody and a word. We are here to discuss DUST and Mining, not trade videos. There are plenty of other threads where that is the sole focus. |
