Personally I prefer this extended version of that trailer.
It adds some context and is much cooler. |

It looks better and they had more content. But then again, we also saw trailers with the new engine which show stuff like PvE and Drones. |

But then again, we also saw trailers with the new engine which show stuff like PvE and Drones. It's really the part that I underlined. A lot of people can't see "the vision" of what Dust will be when everything is "finished" and fleshed out. All racial weapons. All suits. All vehicles. All environment textures, facilities, planets, warbarges, etc. Think of the richness in the Eve universe--how the races play differently; how their space looks like "their space;" how their stations have unique looks and feels; how the weapons have variety; etc.
I get that it's somewhat unfair for CCP to ask us to "ride out" the game's initial development. I mean, the game should have more-or-less been a complete picture of what it's going to be, with iteration left to make new features, work on PC changes, etc. after launch. But instead, we get only a taste of "the complete Dust" (with limited suits, weapons, vehicles, planets, war barges, installations, etc.), and we are asked to hold fast while the remainder is worked on. We are asked to play "the Dust" (in our minds at least) as we watch cookie cutter mercs running around using the same things we are.
I guess I look at it like its nice to have the opportunity to watch the game being developed, from an insider's perspective. I like that they didn't make us wait three more years while CCP worked out all the kinks, implemented all the kit, etc. I mean, look at other titles that gamers have had to wait years on to play. It sucks to wait. But then again, it sucks to be given only a partial glimpse and know that in the back of your mind, the "whole" thing is coming, and more yet, to want that thing. But CCP realizes this. They are continually working to improve the experience, from the "core shooter" to the variety we all know is coming.
Everyone likes to compare Dust to CoD or Halo or BF3 or similar. Of course it's easy to do that; the games are very similar at this point! Dust has "basic" weapon types covered. Everyone gets an AR. Everyone can use a grenade launcher or pistol. The crappy thing now (and its getting a lot better with the introduction of more variety (scrambler rifle/flaylock pistol, etc.), is that those "traditional" weapon themes are prevalent in all shooters. Everyone gets a rifle of some sort or grenade launcher or pistol in every game. Nothing new to see here. But with Dust, you can use a laser rifle. Or forge gun. Or flaylock pistol. Imagine the lines fully fleshed out. In Dust, you can pick the type if soldier you want to play. You can pick if you want to be fat and slow, heavily plated, lightly shielded, light on your feet or some combination thereof. It's the degree of customization and the interaction with this customization and skills that will set Dust apart.
It's going to take a little patience. Patience is hard for gamers who want their stuff now, now, now! Patience is hard to grasp when you are playing game-design-in-progress, and the goal is shifting around and ever moving. Patience is hard when you want to respec instead of waiting for your skill points to grow to a point where you can try something new. But, patience isn't a new thing. An uneasy feeling, yes, but nothing new. Hopefully, with a little patience, we can all see Dust grow both game-mechanic-wise (with new stuff in-game) and as a franchise. We'll see growth so that pilots in Eve want to come and poke around our planets. And when they do, we'll be waiting with surface cannons to blast them from the stars.
I, for one, can be patient. One, because we really have no choice and two because it's exciting watching the game develop essentially as we play it. It's great that we can give feedback into the development process and see changes taking place. But mostly, I can be patient because I see the direction the game is headed in: toward more variety and uniqueness. It's going to be a different game than the other shooters, and that's ok, because that's exactly what its trying to be.
