That would hurt any game player count for a while plus you also got to look at player adjustment considering players have to adjust to implements in the game. also look at last 6 month chart player count only decrease in the 6 months because of issue revolving around core game mechanics which drove players away as time progressed. the only reason for player spike in the game is because of offical launch of dust 514 which was advertise up on PSN which i am sure you saw a lot of. which clearly show me you did check the graph dates. The graph only has a huge spike in 6 months because of its launch not any other reason why.

I hear you man, but I think people might be over exaggerating a little, but What i understand is players who quit during 1.2 and 1.3 have recently come back in the last few days considering it 1.4 new launch. player count is not higher, but return players are coming back. if you look at the graph player count rarely exceeded 5000 players.

Although you will have to assume that there are no other factors to be considered such as new games having fresh content, static in the job's work load, fixed leisure time and all sorts of variable that affect a player's life. I would rather have monthly data regarding new player retention, match progression details, marketing data, storefront sales data, along with all sorts of misc data that could allow me to create a model and run regressions to see the relevance of several factors in order to make a judgement.

Graphs only mean anything if you can read between the lines!!

Next dip is expected on GTA V day and based on time to content consumption... Its going to be 2 weeks before those numbers start reeling back give or take possibly longer if GTA V learned anything from its competitors (it likely hasn't) thus until the DLCs are minced meat out in pre-packages there will be moderate gaps between game release and DLCs.
