Light frames should have a higher FOV. The light suits are supposed to be about battlefield awareness, having a low profile, and mobility; the added peripheral awareness from a higher FOV would suit the light frames greatly.
The more your FOV is, the more you get to see of your surroundings, but it comes at the expense of making everything look slightly more distorted (fish eye effect).
To those who believe a higher FOV would look unrealistic: keep in mind that as humans we have a FOV of close to 180. We can't accurately represent this on a computer screen, but the FOV distortion can give us at least a slight simulation of it and is actually more natural than what we get with the standard \FOV of 90..

The low FOV makes doing stuff lights do, like use nova knifes and see who's to the side of you, much harder. |

Not gonna happen.
FOV is not adjustable as yet. It Significantly effect Graphics load. DUST is at or near the Graphics maximum load now. They have reduced Draw Distance dramatically so the pretty graphics elements are enabled. FOV fits into that same set of systems that limit how much detail can be drawn.
The type of suit has Nothing to do with graphics or its settings. A broader FOV would help everyone. But, it still isn't going to happen. |

I've just been thinking about this today and I'm glad to see there's already a thread. This could be the single biggest change to make Nova Knives viable on a scout.

Changing the FOV has a negligible effect on graphics performance. I've changed it on dozens of PC games and fps without any hit on framerate at all. Any performance issues with different FOVs would be due to how the LOD is set up, and even then it's pretty small in the worst cases. |
