Is ANYONE having any luck adapting to 1.4 as a NK'er? Specifically Aim Assist in particular. Being one shot across half the map by a Militia AR because of lolMagic Aiming is not fun. Hit detection is STILL god awful for the NK, and actually feels like it got worse than in 1.3 if that is possible. People are still able to backpeddle and in addition now kill you 75% faster because of Aim Assist. Scanning seems to be the only thing I am good for with my NK fitting which sucks because that still doesn't have a WP reward so in essence i'm worthless on the battlefield. Gee thanks a lot CCP.
However, if I want to join the crowd I can bust out my dual SMG fit and hip fire people to death from a hundred meters away. When the hell is cloaking coming CCP? Getting sick of the neglect to the Scouting community.

I know what you are saying, some fixes for the NK are allegedly incoming. Took me a bit, but i found my kills rising back up now, not to the level they were before, but getting better 4 kill streaks are becoming more consistent. Adjusting to the dynamic happening for me, mostly relying on stealth and panic in the enemy in tight quarters, location and surprise make a huge difference. |

Had a scout back in Beta but i biomassed him lol.....
But recently like a week ago recently
I decided i would like to try another.. still playing him but WOW i see what all the scouts have been complaining about.
now afaik and used them nova knives have never been "Right" really really bad hit detection. i think you should be able to charge thrm while sprinting. was hoping some things would have changed but....
only speaking for my scout wich is newer with less than 2 mil sp some matches??? i dunno i do really well!!!
then others i will fully admit i get totally creamed.... and im talking like 4/15 k/d. but addmittedly i am still learning...
everyones crying for <3 from CCP. if any class in DUST is broken it is the scout. the AR users complaining ar's need moar buff
range ect. they are nuts. and when i see scouts with 12-15 mil sp posting as to how they are constantly getting lolwtfpwned.
makes me wonder if im just peeing in the wind so to say.... however getting nk kills is pretty awesome!!! i love it every time i do.
not going to blame it on aim assist and get on the bandwagon like everyone else..... i do not think thats the problem.
problem is scout class and nova knives in general have been fubar long before 1.4 and still fubar. CCP needs to step up to the plate. the life / battles of a young scout in DUST right now. is the defenition of "HARDCORE" and snipers this does not include you. lolwut? nothing hardcore bout snipers. just face roll. o7 |

I would have imagined that nova knifing would have gotten easier because of the changes that were made to shared vision. Maybe your just not sneaky enough to use knifes?
Also I find it odd that a nova knife user would complain about aim-assist when CCP implemented mele aim-assist in 1.0.
Take a scout suit and fit with an active scanner and a CQC weapon. Proceed to have fun times. |

Melee aim assist does not affect the Nova Knife's charged swipes, or quick swipes. It only works if you do the R3 melee attack. Which is kind of dumb. |

I consider myself pretty stealthy for the most part. I use the environment to my advantage and try to only bite off what I can chew. That said there are times when you just gotta kamikaze and jump into the flank of a big group and see how many you can stab before they notice you.And they will notice you if you fail the stab, which ordinarily wouldn't bother me much except for the ****** hit detection for NK's being responsible for more deaths than I can count. I also have noticed people pay a LOT more attention to their surroundings now that the shared vision changes took effect. In combination to the Aim Assist changes I find I am dying at least 50% more and continuously bleeding ISK just about every match.
The shared vision changes are ok. I personally don't mind it beyond the fact I am pretty much forced to run with an Active Scanner all the time now. My RE's miss me, but I don't like being blind and blundering into people who can insta-pop me on sight.
The melee Aim-Assist doesn't affect Nova Knives only the R3 button as another poster previously said. |

I think you're referring to the melee lunge. That only works on melee attacks. Annoyingly enough, nova knives don't have any lunge feature. They should. |

Charge sprint needs to be a feature rather than a glitch. That'd help the NK out immensely. Also,if there isn't enhanced damage from hitting the back, there should be. Maybe giving it a SMALL range buff ON TOP of the other buffs I said would also help to get it to hit. I REALLY wanted to ull out my Knives this build to change things up, but according to what I've heard it isn't such a good idea...
Also, who else is looking forward to the other racial melees? :D |

Seriously, who would expect open maps to be a good idea for knives and expect them to work well? Like you said, using them indoors makes more sense and apparently, are also effective there. I don't use them at all but I'd bet knives and scanners are great buddies.

Ha. Fun times yes. Also as your fun levels go up your stress levels will to.
Please people, run scouts and see just how paper thin they are. Even more than ever. Like I have said on these forums before, you only have to be looked at by an enemy now and you are dead. Escaping tight situations is a hell of a lot harder even if you are Speedy Gonzalez. |

Nova Knifing should, and will always be, a niche skillset. Hit Detection issues aside. Good nova knife players manage terrain, LOS, and scanning constantly and pick only the fights they can win. I love watching a good player with knives. It's genuinely hilarious. However, to say that knives need some sort of mechanic to help them is ridiculous. No, you do not need a lunge... more range... or special snowflake cloaking. You need to do what it takes to succeed when you bring a knife to a gunfight. The mechanics of the game should always favor the "shooter" aspect of Dust. Good, niche players should be able to succeed with knives only when their level of skill allows them to. |

"Lunge" mechanic is likely inbound. See quote below.
CCP Wolfman wrote:Beyond Creation wrote:In the patch notes of the 1.4 update it was said that problems with hit detection were going to be fixed. Apparently from reading other forums the hit detection is better for weapons like the assault rifle, but the nova knives still fail to do damage quite often on a moving target. With such a fragile suit going into high risk situations to stealthily eliminate targets, how are we to do so effectively when if that target moves when there's the probability of an undetected hit? I ask CCP that you fix this ASAP because it is crucial for a nova knifer to be able to get their kills. We'll take a look at this since the knives use an angle based system unlike the other weapons. I suspect the problem you are having might be related to range. With a target moving in and out of the (quite limited) knife range it could seem like hits aren't registering. We have been considering the addition of a slight 'rush' forward with melee to help prevent range issues like that.

In that same thread we brought up the issues of "phasing" through the enemy and field of vision.
You dont want them to get a slight lunge but aim assist is fine???
CCP chose to make it an outright weapon other than an assassination animation so I think they have to support it appropriately. |

Im an AR/Smg user and I think aim assist is one of the worst things that has happened to this game. Aim assist on hipfire needs to go. Put it on ADS if anything. Auto weapons need a major nerf now that hit detection is fixed. Things are ridiculously easy right now. |
