You guys totally could have messed around with the OP
Hey OP, you can mine.
Equip a repair tool and some remote explosives and go out into the hills. lay down some of those explosives and detonate them, preferably somewhere where there are obvious mineral deposits (rocks). Then use your repair tool to vacuum out the gold. Happy mining. |

Ughh, you guys could have at least explained to him what mining is before trolling him.....
Mining is a profession in EVE where you take a ship fitted with a mining tool (there's many kinds, so i'm not going to list them all) and go out and mine various types of ore, gas, and ice for building ships, modules, fuels, and stat enhancing boosters. It is arguably the easiest profession, and the profession with the best steady income. |

I've been trying to mine Merc Lungs with my FG for the Angel Cartel. I think I'm doing it wrong, because I keep getting red mist instead of whole organs.  |

Mining should be something people can do while semi-afk. Give those AFK farmers somewhere productive to go.
In all reality I imagine the equivalent to mining in DUST will be Drone Horde mode. We will likely get our regular ISK and SP and probably some Salvage.
What would be interesting is if it didn't just give us regular Salvage, but metals and resources for manufacturing items, or for selling to EVE players. Maybe getting EVE type Salvage that we can sell or something like that. |

Uhm, what repair tool is passive?????? Repair modules are passive. The repair tool is active and has to be equipped from an equipment slot, aimed, and 'fired' like a gun!!!
It does not matter if you are aiming at a player, or at the ore deposit that you found with your active scanner!! You still have to 'pull the trigger'!!

What about a big mobile mining laser "drill", with setup time and all. You could go afk, but need to defend it (and yourself) from time to time against other players or drones. |

I think there WILL BE mining in DUST. And it will be directly tied with warfare. There was, in a last paragraph on MCC on DUST webpage, written that Commander would dispatch mercs to find and mine natural resources required for fueling MCC during battle.

You could get therd biomass to sell to DUST corps as clones, would make ambush more interesting if there is a guy in a spaceship trying to mine your ass!!
Then when we get skyfire batteries, we can fight back,
