I was thinking, as I watched my corp mate being shredded by a friendly orbital in a PC match, there must be a better option in the far far future for selectively laying waste to one's enemies and cutting out the friendly fire. Obviously, we already have this in pub matches without friendly fire, so what about a completely different approach to bombardment?
I was considering a destroyer overhead with nanite cluster bombs (or missiles) in their bays. Squad commanders could have the option to call these instead of a standard strike. The idea is a resulting cloud of Nantes coded to the friendlies to swing a pitched battle without devastating your own ground force. I imagine the actual effect as maybe a 20 meter radius wyrkomi triage hive - or whatever level of effectiveness would be balanced as an orbital level intervention. Perhaps there could even be a shield rep variant?

Not a bad idea, actually. I know orbital 'scans' were considered as a potential option some time ago.
The entire orbital mechanic needs some work atm though. |

What do you think? I hate to disagree, but no. This takes out the strategy in PC matches. Trying to avoid shooting friendlies, or anything else along those lines, are all the characteristics of PC, and taking them out would make matches even easier. |

it's not a bad idea but it's difficult to justify its use. I mean, why waste an opportunity to potentially kill a mass of people in order to drop down a large AoE nanohive? |

Well. We already have Projectile Orbitals which only strip the shields. I don't see what would be wrong with a weaker and smaller nanite orbital which doesn't effect friendlies. |

The EMP projectile strikes. Those are useless unless your attacking a Caldari HAV. |

Anyways, I want to have a Drone OB, and for 30 seconds I get to send down a remote controlled Drone and lay waste. It would be fun |

I love it. I've never played P.C. but that sounds like a great idea. The WarBarge should totally carry more than just a normal Orbital Bombardment however for those players who may never play Planetary Conquest. The Nanite Cluster Bomb could be displayed with a red circle that you could move around the map. It'd also be cool to call in vehicles at a place on the map where you aren't for friendly teammates. |

Disagreeing is what forums are for. I do see your point, but I still like having more options that lead to agonizing decisions. Do I help MrBigGuns and LadyLogi out and trust they will win out against three red dots? Or do I just wipe out all five of them and apologize later? |
