I understand more content is coming soon. CCP has given us hints, and even solid information that more weapons are coming and we will have more of a variety in choosing how we kill our fellow virtual targets. My thing is though, why don't we stop nerfing things, and add more variation of things that seem to be used a lot. Not better, not worse even, but different.
My main example in this is the mass driver. As a gallente assault user, I tend to loathe mass driver users due to them getting bonus damage to the bulk of my HP. I do not think they are over powered though. I just think that due to the lack of area of effect weapons and people not having a choice in the matter when wanting to do crowd control combat makes the use of mass drivers abundant. The gun itself is fine. No nerfing or buffing needed of any sorts, although enough people complain and CCP does a good job of giving people what they want if there is enough uproar, why don't we stop complaining about weapons and help CCP out by giving them productive ideas as to what to add and change in order to make the balance better.
CCP you pretty much already have good ideas in the form of tank missiles, they have different variations, why don't we do the same for our mass driver. Different blast radius, fire rates, damage, (some of which we already have) but why not do what you did with the assault rifle, you added a different variations that does different things to drop suits, this being the scrambler rifle. You should apply the same idea's to all weapons.
If this is something that is already in mind, or in the works, or even on the "roadmap", then excellent. It will suppress your complainers and allow people to make choices based on what they wish to do enemies, what type of enemies and so forth. Just please get it done as soon as possible and ignore those that wish certain weapons to be altered to not be as effective against them. They are most likely just upset cause the specific weapon terminated them and they wish for you to be responsible.
The only thing that may need to be "nerfed" is the aim assist, dear lord do people seem a lot better when they don't eve miss. Aim assist was not the problem, it was hit detection. Hit detection is tough, most games have issues with it, just this game tend to have the most out spoken complainers of it. Keep up the work CCP you are slowly getting this game to the status that everyone wishes it to be, it was the turtle that won the race. Just please understand how it can be extremely frustrating dealing with mistakes and times of trial and era, many people are having to change how they play with each update. Your player base is important, you need them in order for the game to be successful. Good luck to you CCP, I shall continue to play this game, Ive invested too much time and money to leave. ( Its almost like a trap ;] ) Well the biggest thing is, during their presentation at fanfest 2013 they said everything for the first 6 to 12 months is core gameplay improvements, which include balancing and filling in racial weapons. Due to uprising mishap we lost 3 good months but it happens in MMO's. Hold tight buddy, we are finally getting started with real patches. |

An interesting post and you do make some good points.
However, what you don't seem to grasp is the reality of software development and/or art asset creation.
Art for any weapon includes reload animation, skin textures which includes firing animations, light reflection and overheat areas. Then, following your very good MD variants suggestion, there is the matter of game play balance. Very small changes in those areas will strongly affect the results.
If we could just buy any weapon and try it out that would be great. But accessing, equipping and using a weapon requires SP. SP if very expensive so trying a weapon is a bad idea currently. The AUR versions are intended to make CCP some income as well as allow the freedom to try unskilled weapons.
One variation on a weapon is probably two months of work. Possibly by more than one person, in particular the balancing effort. All of this would have to happen in an environment where there are hundreds of bugs that are on the fix list with at least a couple dozen that are critical at any one time. This is normal for a project of this size and it is just the nature of the beast.
What I would prefer is that Each Level of SP would allow access to a separate weapon variant. That would make a jump from lvl 3 to lvl 5 less of a mental jump. But they have to have the time to fill all those slots in, besides making the decision in the first place. I have no idea if that was ever on the plate but this is the Only RPG That Doesn't Consistently Reward Players For Level Advancement. I believe it is a major failing and quite possibly is because the Dev team doesn't have RPG experience or was unable to translate their previous RPG experience to the FPS world. |

I didn't expect a magical poof and it be here, I just suggested simply to not worry about nerfing but to concentrate on the development of those guns. It wasn't raging at CCP or anything, Im a fan and a player, just trying to help. |

Also in your last paragraph you make an excellent point, but as far as the SP goes, if you try hard enough in one month you can earn 1 million skill points. You can skill into multiple weapons doing that, at least level one to try them out. I just think that if there are more to use than mass drivers then people wouldnt complain as much and weapons wouldnt get nerfed constantly. |

What exactly has been nerfed lately?
Things were mostly buffed in 1.4; any feeling of a nerf is because other stuff got better and some stuff stayed the same. |
