Hello. I am about to make another few costly SP purchases and I am just wanting a little feedback. So I originally planned on stepping up my Shield Energizer/Recharger and Shield Regulation both up from 3 to 5. That's about 1.4 million SP. I was happy to spend the SP before the update. But now it seems as if Gank is stronger than Tank in this build. Maybe the SP would better be spent on AR proficiency or Complex Damage Mods? What do you guys think? |

Stick with STD suits, no point in spending much more isk. Stack HP extenders and plates like mad. Done. |

I already do this. But I still need to max my shield skills (I'm Caldari) for my proto PC fit. Or at least I thought I did. Now maybe I just take those Damage mods from 3 to 5 and call it done. |

I can't see many scenarios where the utility tank modules are better then just upgrading pure ehp, nor can I see a situation where I would use one of those modules in this build.
so get your weapon up before those. |

Armor plates got a pretty decent buff. You could try utilizing those. |

Spend SP on things that will make you live longer. DUST is about profit margins which = to dying as less as possible to gain the most profits.

I saw that in the patch notes and have noticed on the battle field while fighting people. I think Armor Plates up to enhanced or complex would be a good idea, even as a Caldari. I've left them at 1 for too long since I don't really use them. As for the Armor Upgrades - 5% to my already lame 90 Armor. At level 5 that's what, an extra 22 armor? What's that? 1 bullet? Not worth it. |

To be honest, the game has always seemed like this to me. Shield rechargers, etc. have never seemed like anything but filler. You can't active tank in DUST as a footsoldier. |

Not worth it. I know extenders can eat up your CPU, so I'd say if you can fit a enhanced plate, do it.
Otherwise, a basic plate gets you a fair amount of HP, only a 2 percent penalty to movement speed and at the cost of only 10 CPU and 1 PG.
Or you can fit a reactive plate to your suit, but your better off going all or nothing with that. Use either a basic or complex, the enhanced is not worth it IMO. |

But now it seems as if Gank is stronger than Tank in this build. Maybe the SP would better be spent on AR proficiency or Complex Damage Mods? What do you guys think? Let me stress this: Don't EVER skill based on current game mechanics. Skill based on the playstyle you want to play--you'll be happier in the end, since you didn't chase FOTM and then feel burned when your precious sp you spent into something overpowered ends up being nerfed.
If you like shields and skirmish play (hitting and running, shooting from farther away, etc.), then spend your sp in shields. If you prefer to brawl, then maybe skill into things that enhance that gameplay. I know it seems counter-intuitive that I'd urge you to skill into something that you may think is underpowered now, but the issue is that if you don't like brawling game play, it won't be particularly fun for you having lots of armor and being really slow. You won't like that your armor refills very slowly or that you're not as fast as a comparably-fit shield tanker. BUT, you'll enjoy your playstyle, and when the buff/nerf hammer comes to skirmish/brawling, you won't feel burned.
Furthermore, when the rest of the weapons are introduced (Combat rifle and Rail rifle, to name two), they will act as a net buff toward skirmish gameplay, as both of those rifles are optimized for longer range, higher damage (through 3-shot burst fire for Combat rifle or breach high damage, low RoF Rail rifle). You'll be happier at that point, because it will just be a matter of skilling into those new weapons instead of skilling into those new weapons AND your real preferred style of gameplay. |
