Multifunction pad button O could be used to display a popup window we could choose various support request. I know one can ask for ammo, repp or cover etc. via mic. But...
How do you quickly and reliably explain your position in the middle of the fight?
Answer: Hold O button (or adequate KB key) untill support request window pops up. Choose a desired support action you would like to be served. Ex. ammo, repp, LAV pick up, DS pick up, AV support, support fire. When this support action is chosen, an appropriate homing icon with distance is displayed on teammates HUDs via TacNet. Just like logis can see a syringe icon homing in to fallen teammates.
This request could be further filtered and displayed only to those merc who can provide service requested. Ex.- ammo icon (hive) only those carrying hives on them would see
- repp icon (wrench) only those carrying reptool would see
- LAV pick up icon (LAV) only LAV drivers would see
- DS pick up icon (DS) only DS pilots would see
- AV support icon (rocket) only those equipped with AV weapons,
- support fire icon (pistol) all would see
Additionally could be limited to the range of request's recipients.
For pick ups overview map could be displayed to mark destination waypoint for drivers and pilots.
For AV support, locking of the vehicle to destroy would be necessary.
I am not sure about AV support and support fire cos they somehow interfere with squad orders. But i've mentioned anyway.
More support actions could be added this way. And any merc responding to the request would earn some WP (with cooldown) or kill assists WP if the merc served scored a kill afterward.
"Hold O" would not activate request window if you are already presented with on screen prompt to use O button. Like hacking, ladders, injectors, installations, vehicle use, etc. |

Users of compact/triage hives should also see the rep icon. I can see the value in this but I would just prefer allowing all player to give squad orders but simply call them "Squad requests". The one making the request doesn't get any commissions but the one executing the requests do still get a small bonus. These would be to make your life easier and thus would work a little differently.
Defend(Request Backup) - Only can be placed on yourself and so you will automatically make the request once it is selected. Attack(suppress) - This can be placed on a specific target or, like the rally command, can be placed on a general area. Rally (waypoint) - Up to 2 can be placed instead of one.
All of the icons would be different and when aiming at the request icon the player that made the request will have there name appear. Icon is white if the player making the request is in a different squad and green if in the same squad (solo players cannot make requests).
As far as needing ammo goes, I suggest just make an auto request. If you are down to our last clip then you automatically make the ammo request icon (wrench) appear.
While in a squad you are probably in a squad chat instead of team chat and therefore can't ask someone outside of your squad for help and I think that is your reasoning for this thread. I agree with you completely in that regard.
[Off Topic] Man, I can't see how people can use the default control scheme.
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST. |

+1 This is very similar to what we had in MAG, it was very useful when you need a quick way of letting your squad know what you need.

Additionaly bidding for service providers would be neccessary. After service providers receive support request they are presented with an option to accept it within limited time 5-10 secs. The first to accept gets the "job". The merc who requested it gets an acknowledgement and is also presented with homing info (merc name, distance and direction) to service provider.
Deal is cancelled upon death of any party involved. Or after some time elapsed 2-3 minutes. Or upon button press. No possibility to submit/accept another request until present one is commited/cancelled. No new requests are displayed to both mercs. (will add this to op) |

Or, and here me out on this since it is a pretty radical idea, you get a microphone and actually ask your squad mates for what you need using this new fangled invention called your voice.
I really don't need more stuff clogging up my game pad. More buttons that open menus means more of a chance I open one while trying to shoot someone and get killed. |

If they are new then they probably won't be helping you much anyway. Squad mates should also be sticking relatively closely to each other to provide good support so you wouldn't need to tell them where you are, they'd be right next to you. In the case of new players they should definitely be hugging you like glue since they are flimsy as all get out and sticking with a more experienced player is a great way to survive and learn a map. |

Awesome idea. Similar to what was in battlefield 3. Clicking Select in BF would signal to a vehicle you wanted to be picked up, signal to support for ammo, or a medic if you needed healing. Kind of a multi-purpose "help" button. Something like that would be great.
Another great help, would be indicators on allies if they are under fire, low on ammo, low on health etc... Which would display if allies were within a certain proximity of course. |

If you're hitting O when trying to kill someone, you're doing something wrong. If you're holding down O long enough to bring up a menu, you're doing something way wrong.
OP has a good idea, but the heat of battle, where you'd need it, isn't the place to be bringing up a menu. |
