After reading so many of the complaints since yesterday it has been solidified that: a) people will never be happy, b) people don't appreciate what GOOD/PROMISING things get added to this game and c) they only worry about what's bad.
Ever think that MAYBE what CCP is doing is actually moving this game into a more 'tactical', 'risky' FPS as opposed to the every day run and gun nonsense that has taken gaming by storm??
With the exception of the Matchmaking system which was ridiculous to say the least (have not signed on yet today to test out the Fix) I'd say CCP is finally giving us something promising.
We have huge gorgeous maps that I'm sure is meant to support increased team sizes in the near future; new visual effects and sharper graphics that have ultimately improved hit detection and made the game feel less cheap; and a greater emphasis on tactics and moving in a squad as opposed to going all gun-ho and solo.
I for one am 'content' with what I played yesterday, all glitches and annoyances aside I know that this game is moving in a promising direction as opposed to being one big frustrating mess.
I'd also like to comment on a couple things that I've been reading:
1) AIM assist is NOT OP- My philosophy on AIM assist is that it's like training-wheels to help you get adjusted to the controls and shooting mechanics of the game. I personally don't play with aim assist but yesterday I began my matches with it turned on to see the difference. What I found is that it DOESNT do the aiming for you, it simply just assists in staying on target. You still have to move the analogs to follow your target, it's not as if you just point and shoot and it will lock on to the point of never leaving the target. So enough with making it sound as if aim-assist is one big homing missile that can't be shaken off. Once a person feels comfortable enough with the mechanics they can remove the assist and find that the aiming isn't all that much different all that needs to be adjusted is increased sensitivity and that's all.
BTW--For all you speed tankers. It's great that you guys move as fast as you do and make yourselves that much of an annoyance, but NO ONE in this game should be able to move like a God and be practically untouchable. with that said, don't assume that every time you die is because someone killed you with aim-assist. Are you the person shooting at you? NO...Can you see the other player and identify what controller settings they have set?? NO ... Could it be that the person simply is good enough to predict where you'll be before you get there and sees through all the rabbit hops and zig-zags that you're attempting to shake them off?? .............. Think about it.
2) ARs did not get stronger, hit detection just got improved (FINALLY)--- this pretty much speaks for itself. With improved visual rendering and sharper graphics comes better hit detection. Now more bullets actually hit on target as opposed to seemingly looking as if they hit you, and sounding like they hit you; but oddly enough never putting a scratch on your dropsuit. Know what this means? Means now you have to be more careful when attempting the run and gun game. Stop playing Rambo and start using your covers, corners, and high-grounds to flank and out smart your opponent. Time to work for those kills Mercs!!!
and 3) This one is directed to CCP regarding the match making mechanic--- I believe that the match making system SHOULD put you in matches that you WANT to get put in. To say that you give the players a choice of getting into specific match-types, yet throw them in completely different matches is misinformed and deceiving. I'm referring to the recent Dev post that spoke on said topic and how we, the players, are NOT GUARANTEED the matches that we choose (This was after the back-lash of the system during yesterday's 1.4 launch). That mind set needs to stop right there. One should never take the power of choice away from the player.
Welp, I think I've said enough for today. With that I bid you all a good rest of your day and hope the matches are fun and enjoyable. will be signing on momentarily to test out Today's fix.
Best,

Not sure if this was directed towards me or not but just to make it clear. This isn't a debate this is me discussing my thoughts on the above matters.
If, however, your comment wasn't directed towards me then simply ignore what I've just said.
Thank You

I completely agree with you on this one but for the part that Aim-assist is not aimbot. and by speed tankers do you mean people in scout suits with 200+ shields and speed mods? |

Well, lets see..... My scout was doing awsome evading and knifing people in 1.3 then aimbot comes along and im getting one shotted at 150 - 200 meters by ARs. But of course its not aimbot. |

Hit detection was also absurd

No what hes saying is everyone should be forced to play DUST 514 on "easy" mode. Screw any learning curve with actually learning how to aim. Then we can all get to the buisiness of hiding behind the right box. Because that is what gungame is right? taking cover? |

Just stating that if you get caught up in all the nonsense on here, it can ware you down. Everyone suddenly becomes an experienced game developer and an expert on all the game mechanics on here. Opinions are like ********, everyone has one and some of them stink. |

Who said anything about forced??? Last I checked you can turn the assist on and off .... And you can have a great gungame but this game is also about Tactics and working Together as a squad/Team to succeed.... No body said anything about an easy button, Sir. |

Consider this...with improved hit detection and a nominal aim assist the percieved effect is a massive boost in lethality. I think folks concentrated more on the aim assist component of this and forgot that there were some real updates in hit detection (which was universally asked for across these forums).
I'm not a huge fan of aim assist but would like a small bit of retical sticky as an option. Most folks out grow aim assist as their skills get better and they just turn it off...it's just a small bit of player choice.

I think most people in the DUST Forums are stuck with the lecture of having to say everything in the game is op.
Here is an example that CCP is doing a good job and actually building the game than modifying the game
Lets put bo2 in the discussion. Say my AN-94 and me got 13 kills and two deaths. At the end of the match no one yells op in their mics or even say anything is op on the forums. The same should go with DUST. But the only thing is, it involves tactical decisions to work together. Not to go lone wolf and try to be a hero. We all just have to rely on eachother. This is starting to sound cheasy to myself anyway but I hope you get the point. Deal with it. |

The forums are a place to start discussions.
When people post "I love DUST" or "thank you CCP" threads, those disappear with a handful of likes. The good in 1.4 is probably more significant than the bad, but forums are for discussion, and "yay CCP" doesn't really get a conversation going unless everyone else disagrees, thus turning the positive thread into a flamewar.
Most of the discussion happens in the negative-toned threads because those are the ones where the most discussion is needed. When someone dislikes an aspect of the game, people will chime in to share their troublesome experiences, or to offer workarounds, or to promote their own ideas for how CCP could solve the problem in question. Every now and then, a complaint will be met with counter-rage from someone claiming it's untrue - usually quite vehemently. Sometimes a post will contain more than one of those things.
Negative comments, when presented constructively, promote discussion. Positivity just gets a like and a skim over. So obviously, the positive threads sink fast, and we're left with a bundle of rage on the front page. |
