Over the last few weeks I have been considering what would make open world possible. Here are my suggestions. Leave the lobby in place and allow mercenaries to deploy to the planetary districts that their corporation owns. From their districts they can walk/fly/drive all around their planet even if they have no other districts. This gives the opportunity to run into other mercs participating in other battles and allows a true ambush of the mercs in battle to be performed.
PVE In addition to other battles, mercs would find Rogue drones that have been advertised in countless teaser trailers and really should make it into Dust as overflow from incursions and similar system influences could apply to the battles as they do in Eve. This would mean reductions in payouts (etc) for high influence systems on normal enemies (players) and an abundance of sites, on planets in the area of influence, where players would find Rogue Drones (Sansha) to kill and be killed by but with much higher payouts from killing the drones than from normal players as well as better salvage.
A side thought not at all key to the overall topic I suppose it may be a little early to ask for a new player race but if it helps sell this idea (INCURSION DUST) then I propose a new player race, the Sansha, to assist devs by removing the need to program an AI for them. The option could be added easily enough and it would require the Sansha players to skill their Drone/Toon as they gain SP. |

This is the start of allowing us a training ground for PC tactics as well as being able to have a larger team deployed at once. Does anyone have additional thoughts to add? |

Scotty the matchmaker "taking a break" (FAIL), may as well deploy to a PC District to go work out tactics issues or find mercs battling on a district nearby and ambush them. Maybe the drones are bloodthirsty today, going to have to do something about that... --------------------------------------Getting Back from the District/Planet------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We could use UPLINKs to transport back to quarters or to a clone vat as well to redeploy at a different uplink, let us use wormhole tech to do wormhole like things. Where are all the sleepers? |

I've been seeing the old topics that were similar to this locked, that being my main reason to start this new one. Keep adding to it, I'm a kid at heart and like to play in sandboxes. |

I certainly hope that CCP's ambitions lie in this direction, the disconnected nature of separate matches is certainly at odds with EVE Online's fluid open world in space. On the other hand, I think that if this were technically within CCP's grasp, we would have seen an attempt at it already because it just makes so much sense. Instead, we see an incremental struggle just to fit more people on existing map sizes.
So do I think this is a matter of willpower on CCP's part? No - I've never heard any talk that idealizes lobby matchmaking as a superior system to an open world playfield. In the mean time they reach bigger step by step - albeit slowly. Perhaps we'll see a breakthrough like this if Dust moves to another platform with better hardware support, I don't really know for sure. Either way, I want CCP to continue to dream big.
PVE seems much MORE achievable even given the current performance state, and I personally know of many important individuals inside CCP right now that are very much interested in bringing some of those "trailer moments" to life. Beyond that I run into an NDA of course, but I think its important you know that the dream is very much alive inside the development studio. I think you're OP faces more of a challenge against time than anything else. Thanks for sharing! |

I think you're OP faces more of a challenge against time than anything else. Thanks for sharing! I agree that CCP has many challenges to overcome to make this a reality. At the moment I feel we should push for PVE to supplement the Pubs, FW and PC battles. Even a new player would most likely rather enjoy teaming up with Beta players to go kill drones rather than feeling outclassed and out gunned in our current lobby based PVP arena.
With the comments at Eve Vegas from a marketing guy talking @ around 7hrs into the twitch.tv stream it sounds like multiple platforms will only be a reality after they finish adding the missing stuff to the game. Would cross platforming it solve hardware problems? Maybe, but in all reality there may be a little too much nerf hammering going on and not enough basic features going on to make this a reality in the next year at the very least.
I also want CCP to dream big and when I joined this project 2 years ago as a Beta player I felt that this was the future, now as the future has come we see many competitors popping up with cross platform games that quite possibly will pull a good number of players away from Dust. At this point in time, one of my friends has already said that when Destiny comes out he is going to wipe Dust from his system. This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder if Dust will survive past year 3. With hope for a better game each patch I wish well the Devs and everyone making this game clear thinking and focused direction. You've come to far to give up now. |

I agree completely. If they could get the basic things in dust hammered out over the next while (soon tm) and move in the open world direction afterward i would be very happy. To be completely honest i would even pay for dust if it was open world and more intertwined with eve. I feel like it might have to go to pc to make it all work though. Even though the only reason i bought a ps3 was for dust lol. |

Well if you have been buying merc pack, aurum and other add-on packs for Dust then you certainly have been paying for it as I have been. I also play Eve and have 1+ accounts that I pay for each month, I enjoy new eden and hope to continue for a long time. Making the 2 games into One Universe would really allow me to enjoy both more I think. |

Uncontrolled Districts in this mode would allow new players and vets alike to deploy to the planet's surface and explore as well as hunt mercs and drones alike. This would also provide the ability for CCP to provide us with noob friendly areas with less conflict and more learning. I could only see this as a reality if CCP added more districts. |
