I always turn Aim Assist off for every game I play. I would like the actually aim where I am telling it to aim. |

On my heavy, with aim assist off, I found the game to be much better for shooting mechanics. Better accuracy, far more controllable, and finally able to track without losing my mind.
With aim assist on, there is a fair amount of stick, and the adhesion seems to be overblown for moving targets. I was able to hipfire bursts and take big chunks off of enemies. Needs some toning down.
I saw a heavy take a knee to try and get some shots off. I was laughing as I strafed and headshot him from hipfire at 30m. |

it is ever worse when im fighting in a crowd and people are running all over the place. I turned it off again because I hate struggling to keep my aim on a single target.
I always hated aim assist but i thought i would see if it was as good as people were saying. It is not. |

Its because with aim assist on trying to aim messes it up if you just aim in the enemy's general direction then allow aim assist to take over for you its a whole different story. |

The new aim-assist seems to favor hip firing more than anything. If you're using a semi auto weapon and ADS a lot, you're better off without it. |

If you're not working with the aim assist (line up near target then let go of the stick), it makes it harder to aim, because it tries to correct for you instead of just helping you to correct your own aim.
If you're used to having no aim assist, and you're good at aiming, it gets in the way of you trying to aim for yourself. If you're bad at aiming and stop on the target expecting them not to move, or if you actively work with it on purpose to let the aim assist track for you, then it can MASSIVELY improve your hit rate.
The closer an enemy is, the more likely they are to shake the auto-targeting, and the faster they move (or the sharper the turn they force you to make), the further out they can be while doing so.
When it first kicked in for me, I turned it off straight away, because with my own aim correction on top of the auto-aim, it was making it harder to line up my shots. |
