I know everyone is complaining about aim assist right now, but I'd like to go over some of the better things that have come out of it.
First of all, all automatic weapons are now easier than ever to use. The HMG, SMG, and Assault scrambler rifle all track their targets well at medium range. Hip firing becomes a focus now instead of the usual spray back and forth to hit the target.
The laser rifle benefits greatly from Aim assist, as close-medium range combat is now possible with the weapon. At longer ranges, the aim assist doesn't help the laser rifle as I find myself missing more when I'm not in control of its movements. The scrambler rifle is similar in that hip firing is easer to do, but long range combat is almost impossible with aim assist on.
Weapons such as the plasma cannon and mass driver don't receive any benefit from AA as they must be aimed manually. The forge gun didn't seem to be affected by it when I was using it either. ____________________
I normally have bad aim in FPS games, and this helps me stay competitive. That's not to say that AA is doing all of the work, I'm definitely putting the power and aim into the gun. It doesn't seem to be over controlling like some people might think calling it "aim bot" or whatever.
The thing is, it works. To me it makes the game more enjoyable.
I run away from HMGs because they can tear me to shreds. I don't have to frantically spray everywhere just to hit someone cause AA helps keep the gun in control. The laser rifle is actually scary now. It helps newer players stay competitive and not having to rely on skill and knowledge alone.
Some people might call this game breaking, but I call it game balancing. |

Shayz I know ur a logi and the aim assists help u out but it's a bit too much. I don't even have to move the right stick to aim correctly in mid-close combat. |

I've played DUST since Mordu's Private trials.
I'm also a console FPS veteran.
I say, with no doubt, CCP has done something they haven't been able to do in about a year now, with over 7 iterations and updates to DUST.
They fixed the aiming.
In any other FPS I'm likely to get at least a 2.1 KDR, whether it's Killzone, CoD, Battlefield, whathaveyou.
In DUST I was stuck at a .8 for months, and have climbed to a measly 1.2 KDR as of today.
I can say without doubt it's due to the aiming.
In NO OTHER FPS I'VE PLAYED have I had such a hard time hitting a target.
It's been so bad that, for almost five months of playing DUST, I was aware of how likely I was to die while running to an objective. It was just that awful. If I met another player, and I was alone, I was going to die.
No longer is this the case.
Today, for the first time playing DUST, I felt like I was dangerous. A threat to the enemy team. Capable of dealing legitimate damage to the enemy in a straight up confrontation. It felt like any other shooter out there, where I had a gun, the enemy had a gun, and we had equal chance of killing each other.
The feeling was quite cathartic. Just ask the other people on my floor.
DUST has finally come to the point where I can play it, frequently, and feel like a powerful immortal mercenary.
CCP has made this game better with Uprising 1.4. There's no way to deny that. |
