I am doing really great with my standard scanner. whats the difference between the other scanners? is it worth leveling it up even higher? |

You can find targets with a lower profile. I don't think many people are running dampeners that much though. But as more people start running Active Scanners it might become a viable tactic and that's where the higher tiered scanners come in.
The other scanner tiers might also paint a target for longer but I'm not sure. |

I believe the distance increases while angle decreases I think it's more of a counter sniping tool. |

higher tiers can detect lower profiles (IE scout with skills and mods to reduce their profile) ninjas. the standard will detection pretty much everyone else who doesn't care about their profile signals. |

Scouts/light frames won't show up for standard frames.
However Adv Scanners will require some kind of profile dampening, whether through just the passive bonus for light frames or dampening modules for mediums, to avoid.
Only scouts spec'd deep into profile dampening and lots of those modules will escape proto scans. |

To anyone using active scanners in 1.4: (as part of a squad). Do you feel the intel and target info gained&shared with your squad makes up for the use of the equipment slot? IOW is scanning worth it |

It is definitely worth leveling to ADV or proto because there are the quantum active scanner variants, these have all the stats of normal scanners, but paint the enemy WAAAYY LONGER. regular variant scanners have a 5 second scan duration, but the ADV quantum scanner has a 16second duration, and the proto quantum scanner has a 25 second scanner, these things are THE ****. Taking it to level 3 to get this, which is also a 36db scan for ADV, is definitely worth it,(scouts have base 45db, other suits have 50db) so you can scan everyone but dampener users with it, and paint them for 16 seconds, allowing you to easily keep most of the enemy scanned constantly throughout an ambush.
In fact, try the ADV quantum scanner with a fresh alt, you'll really love it. |

Yes it is worth it. Also to John Ripper some of the scanners also keep the target on your minimap for a longer period of time. |

I just got the Standard a few hours ago and it works very well, also good for precision strikes. |

The only build that can currently hide from a proto scanner is a Gallente Scout with Level 5 skills and proto damps stacked. That of course completely gimps his speed and other abilities, but could be useful in certain situations I suppose. |

Now that I am skilled into them, they should totally give like 10 wp for every marked target that is killed while marked.
lol jk but its a thought to consider. In this game people are kinda selfish and if it doesnt give them wp they wont use it. I use it because its helping my team and myself get kills. |

Scout here. I feel I should point out that all logis do hiding better with complex dampeners than any scout. Thats right folks, your 'I Win' Callogi still works with this. Scouts suck. |

The minmatar scout can hide from all but the focused proto scanner ( with damp modules of course for proto) |

Speaking of scanning, new TacNet and battlefield info: do enemy uplinks still shine brightly across the map? If not, is deployed red equipment revealed upon active scan?
And to confirm what I believe was said: active scanning results are sent to your squad mates, not your whole team, yes? |

Advanced scanners are all you'll need in the game's current state.
Not too many people run dampeners.

the amount of people who will be using scanners now, will force ccp to add WP for scanning. the amount of scanning threads will be through the roof this month, as more people use them for the first time, get zero points for using it, then wonder whats the point. followed by coming here and saying "scanning needs WP'
it needs to be 3 to 5 wp per scanned player killed by a teammat |

I switched out my rep tool (because they aren't as useful anymore) for it this morning. I have to say they are pretty fun to use. It's a huge advantage to know where your enemies are when they don't know where you are. |
