I am a old beta player but I have not had to much time to play the last few months (new baby).
I came on to find many changes and my SP character gimped to players with new weapons, dropships, new dropsuit and weapon buffs and more .. WOW MAJOR!
I asked for a respec to have the same opportunity as others with skilling up the full array of weapons, suits..ect with all the new changes.. I was told a deadline for respecs was May 31...
WAIT A DEALINE.. So this is DUST finished product? I should expect the same from you as you do from me CCP. I can't respec on your BETA??? Your restricting me like its a finished product.. so this is it? No more MAJOR CHANGES? No asking us for support with major update issues... Then I understand no Respecing . . .
CCP also told me we will not get respec when they make other changes in the future directly (from a GM mail). So DUST will have MMO gimp style updates.. Skill SP into the new weapon or suit or be GIMP - Bad game for vets/good players because their styles are gimped for the flavor of the month. Great way to make AUR items useless and endless.. aka Money pit.
This is not a MMO - There are lots of great FPS shoots out there and up and coming. Customer Support like this - FAIL for a FPS. I will play a FPS where I can change my style up and I am not locked down by SP.. Sometimes I like to Snipe or be a Medic. With DUST I have to suck at it and train for days/months to even have enough SP in the weapons/suit to even know if I am good at it or ENJOY IT. You can't try a new style out it crap gear - you will always suck. So you train it up to find out it sucks and your gimped... Hope you did not spend to much AUR in this crap game that your gimped in and their customer support is unwilling to help.
DUST get your MM customer service people off your FPS - your figure out you can't treat FPS's like MMO'er - or FAIl. |

This is a problem, will this game ever be finished? Eve has had ten years and still has a ten year dev roadmap. At least they will be very actively avoiding power-creeping of new stuff. |

Stupid f CCP
Make respecting a AUR item and in game ability. Give players 1 respec token when you make major changes. It could make them profit.
Instead it seems they want issues with there player base and are not concerned about losing some players.. |

This is so wrong in so many ways I can't even start. My head hurts. I'm in a bad mood. I'll try not to be rude here, but these thread titles just... sigh...
Ok, so, first of all, every single beta character had their SP reset with Uprising. There was an optional respec soon after that, but there is no way you missed the first one (the skills were changed). So don't say that you asked for a respec to "have the same opportunity as others" because you had the same opportunities as the others. Even more so having played in the Beta and having Millions of skill points to spend from day 1.
If you want to try out that new fancy Plasma Cannon (don't) just do as everyone else: spend some SP to try the standard version (in this specific example that's were you should stop really) and if you really like it spend some more to unlock adv, proto, proficiency etc.. You can also buy the aur versions to skip a step, maybe to see if it is really your thing or to get some more performance before the time, but they are never as good as if you skill up.
In 99% of the time you don't need to go proto on something to figure out if you like it. The basic versions are usually enough to get a feeling for the class/weapon/role, and they usually don't cost too much in SP. Albeit, I'll have to agree with you in that CCP could do a better job to let us experiment roles and weapons and let us find out what we want, this is true, but this does not justify selling respecs. And this brings us to the point, selling respecs.
So, it is painfully obvious that CCP could sell respecs with AUR and make money with it. Do you really, I mean, really think they haven't considered it? That they haven't thought about it? No, you don't. But you honestly don't seem to know why they don't do this, do you? Since you are so vehemently stating that they will lose players and that this is stupid, I'll guess you don't. So let's get down to it.
It's simple, really, and in the end it all boils down to game design. If you were to sell respecs you would sell less AUR items because people could go from unskilled in, let's say, Laser Rifles, to fully skilled in it, bypassing any advantage in acquiring the AUR versions. This could only be financially justified - losing some income to gain some other income - either if the difference were very substantial or if this change makes the game clearly better overall. It does neither. Actually, it would make the game clearly worse and therefore impact negatively in the finances.
Why do I say that if you are so eager to spend your money in respecs? Because while you may pay for one, or even two respecs, and then drop the game because everyone can respec at free will in such way that being good at something is merely expected I will be here paying for months and years to come to get really good at something in such way that I and others can truly appreciate it.
It's a question of game design and to which type of player you are trying to appeal. CCP focuses in creating a loyal player base and selling respecs simply won't do it. Selling respecs will give you a pontual joy for pontual players and ultimately harm the game when those very same players run out of things to insta respec into and leave it while a loyal player base would stay and grow if the game is well developed. Sure, this may be pretty frustrating at times, but it is necessary. It is frustrating because it matters, and because it matters it can prevail. Plus, read back my first paragraphs. You don't really need to spec all the way into something to figure it out.
Being able to get good at something while taking the time to do it, and knowing that other people can't simply insta switch to your specialty by paying adds more value to doing what you do. That's why Dropship pilots are so proud, that's why Scouts and Heavies stick with their classes with pride even when they are not doing well. Because that's what they do, that's what they are good at and they took the time and effort to master it. Letting someone just switch to maxed out in everything you suffered so much and trained so much to master is unfair since that person wouldn't be able to make the effort and/or be a part of that class in the first place.
As for CCP rebalances that theoretically strip your power to make meaningful choices... well I can only tell you that it's just common sense. If you use Logi to do something which it is not supposed to do, don't complain when it gets changed to actually do what it is supposed to do. If a sidearm is being more effective than many Light Weapons, don't complain when it gets in line with other sidearms just because you spent tons of SP in it. Being able to be smart or stupid with your SP is part of the game, and part of what makes it great. It may not appeal to everyone, but it appeal to those that are likely to stay.
Finally, I wonder why I never see a thread in, let's say "WoW", saying that Blizzard should let me turn my lvl 85 Warrior into a Mage just because I want to pay them to. I'm not really sure from where you guys are taking that this is a legit concept outside of special scenarios, but oh well...
Finally, sorry if I sounded rude or anything. Doom and gloom really makes me mad, as well as these melodramatic thread titles, specially right before 1.4. I really hope you can find your place in DUST 514 and enjoy the game with the rest of us, but if after all this you decide that this game isn't for you I will also understand.
I will not understand if you keep asking for respecs though. That would be all. |

Dust 514 should be looking for ways to keep their player base - there is a lot of good Free-to-Play/Wicked FINISHED FPS's coming out. Getting negative feedback for respecs is silly.
Thanks for the posts - Up until the point I was wall texted trolled. I can see this is an issue CCP is not willing to address. Let it be a BLACK mark on DUST 514's record. If it fails when PS4 comes out - This will be one of the major reasons.
Respec's should be expected until CCP is closer to a finished product. Compared to other FPS coming out - It is not even in the same ball park - its still SO BETA many of my FPS friends are turned off within a few days max.

you realise they had to pull it out of BETA because of all the douchebags trying to game on AUR/cash refunds with each new build, effectively asking for infinite AUR.
The only responsible thing they could do is end "Beta". |

CCP has stated for the upcoming 1.5 patch players with SP invested into vehicle stuff (the stuff 1.5 will focus on) will get a refund of only that SP put into what is being effected. I would imagine they would follow this procedure for any further major changes, and I think it is more than fair. I personally don't give a ****, i'm happy with my choices. That said I gotta give the OP a +1 for creativity.
