themittani.com posted this article today about the predicament of Dust 514.
Nothing new in the article. In fact, some of the author's opinions seem to be based on old and/or dying sentiments.
Also, the commentary on the article is very PC elitist. Beware the neck beards. |

Neckbeards...I'm a 17 year old black kid who can't even grow a beard. Furthermore I can't put on a pound to save my life. I love my gaming rig.

It's my understanding that EVE was pretty underwhelming for the first couple years of its existence, and that there have been a number of broken promises such as walking in stations.
I'll give DUST the same amount of time to find its feet. |

Still not accurate. I'm 17, am socially adept (For having to hang around angsty teenagers all day) and would rather listen than talk (You learn more that way.) And still...I can't grow a beard, sadly. |

I swear to god, it's like no one understands the phrase target audience. Plus, the notion that a game made on one platform would miraculously be night and day different or better on another platform is just cringe-worthy. The comments in that article are so full of armchair developers and jr. executive marketing directors. Jesus. |

Hmm? The conclusion and topic reference was on the second page. He wrote four paragraphs about it and then a final two sentences expressing his hopeful, yet disappointed outlook.

I didn't get that feel at all from the article. Only one paragraph even mentions PC. Can you please explain to me what you're seeing that's PC elitist? (serious request - genuinely interested and want to know)
I don't see anything here I disagree with and most of it harks back to what I think everyone hoped for when they first heard about the concept of Dust 514. With regards to the PC paragraph, that is exactly what PC should one day become - huge long persistent battles with 100+ players on each side across 25km maps - sadly, this will likely never be possible on the PS3 but we can hold out hope for PS4 or PC in the future...
Edit - all that said, the article is nowhere near deep enough to really provide a full analysis of the things needed to make Dust a success. That can't be done in 2 pages, especially when the entire 1st page is about Eve. |
