I already run scout so I don't need any difficulty warnings, I am curious on what you guys think should be the first set of skills to max on dropships.
Thanks for all your input |

i wouldn't max skills to level 5 till later. Level most skills equally but first a few general point to get the questions comming at so we can be more specific
1) Pick a type. Shield or armour. Takes about 16 million to spec both including the ADS levels (i am fullt specced into both and fly both equally). You don't need the armour mods on a shield tanked ship but I do recommend the shield ones on a armour tanked ship. So Caldari is cheaper to fit well and easier to use as you need far less active modules plus have 10% resistance to forge and 20% to swarms built into the shields.
Gallente fits use more skills from both trees.
2) Get your core skills up but not beyond your modules. By this i mean don't ram your CPU skills right to level 5 so extenders cost less to fit and you have more cpu, just so you can fit more advanced shield extenders if you have not skilled into the extenders themselves.
So use leveling synergy. Raise your CPU ability (or PG via reduced plate costs) only as much as you need.
3) Caldari lives by shield re-chanrge. The best fits do not use active boosters so passive innate skill is a real bonus. 3.1) Gallente uses hardeners as a mainstay so spec to equip the best you can of those as well as armour reppers.
4)I'd go ADS for now till 1.5 hits. SO you must also spec turrets. Missles are the way to go.
5) tonnes more things to say but i need your input first. then we can get to the detail...... The above is a very thin answer, just to get us started.

Thanks for flushing out my post, I was planning on going shields for the resistance and your comment help reinforce that thinking as well, I left it open ended to see what people had to say and the shield v armor debate. I understand the benefits of passives since it works for you all the time, its just the list of actives which I should get once I get my passives.
again many thanks and if anyone sees that this still needs fleshing out again let me know |

You have to be ready to be shoot down by Forge Guns and rails. You have to get as much HP as possible so you can tank hits and retreat to a safe spot.
So for a Caldari dropship you'll have to fit a booster, 2 extenders and a hardener. You're lows will most likely be compromised with PG upgrades. All the assault dropships pilots I see use missile turrets. They're easier to use than the blasters and have more range.
Gallente dropships are easier to fit because they have more PG. For this one I'll hybrid tank with extenders and plates. I'd experiment with a shield booster, extender, 2 armor plates, armor hardener and repairer. Don't really know if all that can fit. Maybe instead of extenders you could use shield amplifiers to save up CPU/PG.
Pretty much what the guy said above. Only level up your core skills as needed.

I know many pilots love missile turrets. I do too. But if you are going to be flying with random or inexperienced gunners, consider blasters. Specifically scattered blasters. While they make fitting a bit difficult, they are a bit easier for anyone to just pick up and use and you will find your gunners doing much better with less practice over missiles. On an ADS I would still keep your turret a missile (its the middle one on the fitting screen I believe).
Also reach out to some of the DS pilots on the forums. I'm sure some of them will be willing to let you play door gunner and give you some tips. Plus being a good gunner will help tremendously when you are piloting with your own gunners. You will know what they are seeing and how you can maneuver to give them better shots. |

shields and armor priority, you need to be able to take a hit. the MLT gorgon can be pretty tuff with core skills.
also dont make the same mistake i did and level up Vehicle Engineering. This is a totally worthless skill that does NOT raise your PG. |

In order- Turrets to level one (this is all you will need until you can get them higher) -Shield/armor depending on what DS you're using -If shield, then shield boosters -If shield, then shield resistance amplifiers -If armor, armor reppers And I forget the rest! Good luck! |
