..... Because apparently CCP thinks the problem isn't in the execution at all......
Ok, so its great that were getting another one of these! This stuff lets me grind out things much faster then normal, however apparently CCP feels the need to change the whole system in unnecessary, and ultimately user-non-friendly ways. So lets just jump right into what the real problems are with this upcoming event......
Three days? Reallllllly?
So supposedly, CCP intends to make people "feel less obligated to play." They intend to do this by condensing the event time frame by half so that...... actually I have no clue how that makes anyone feel less obligated at all. Instead of pacing my playtime throughout a 7 day period, I get to cram as much as my body will let me into a already busy weekend. And that's just me! I consider myself a hardcore gamer, and im going to find it difficult to cap out in three days. I feel bad for anybody who plays this game casually, OR has a life outside of it........ I mean, ive seen it all over already, "well thanks CCP I cant play because its only on the weekend" is pretty common.
There also implementing some sort of..... limit? to how many points can be doubled per match? At least that's how I interpreted it. Basically this means that any SP you make over the 3000 bonus limit, WONT be doubled. Meaning that any points you make over 3000 will (or theoretically should) still count towards your Cap bonus pool, but wont be doubled. Meaning that you effectively lose out on the bonus if your doing good....... Nothing like being punished for success right? Now im not too sure about the limit thing, but if anybody can clarify feel free to.
And that's basically it for what CCP is changing. Now for the ACTUAL solution.......
WHAT I WOULD DO TO "FIX" THE..... REAL PROBLEM WITH THESE SP EVENTS.
The real problem isn't to do with people supposedly feeling "obligated to play" its the fact that people regularly get screwed over on these events in terms of who can benefit from them the most. The solution to this is simple.
Just have events start on Wednesday....... and end on Tuesday of the following week. BAM. What was that??? A simple solution to what otherwise is an overly complicated process? This eliminates anyone wondering "wait so does the cap reset for the event???" and just makes the whole system a lot easier to follow.
NOW if the event is date specific..... you have a couple of options you can throw at it.
1.) start it on the Wed. before or on the event, then end it on the Tuesday on or after it. 2.) start the event on the specific date, then end it on the following Tuesday, however the following Tuesday must be at least 6 days away, so if its too close then the "end" Tuesday carries over to the next week.
Keep in mind that the whole concept of this solution is based on a Wednesday on, Tuesday off system. Events should never start on specific dates for the sake of whatever that date means, it should start either the week before, or week after something is happening. This keeps the system simple, and makes it so people don't get screwed over for capping out before an event starts.
CONCLUSION:
By condensing the event period from 7 days to 3 days, it makes more people feel more obligated to play then ever before. And it really screws people over if they actually do something on their weekends other then play dust (go figure :/). This system condsenses down the 7 day period to a 6 day period and puts it on a more understandable time frame. People wont ask "does the event last up until Tuesday downtime, or Wednesday downtime" because nobody will care when the cap resets anymore. The cap will reset on Tuesday/Wednesday downtime prior to the event, and all day Wednesday up until the next Wednesday's downtime there will be x2 or x3 SP. It would just be commonly acknowledged that "Tuesdays will be the last day of the event regardless" (or more accurately, Tuesdays and a little bit into Wednesday). And this system will also prevent people from getting screwed out of their cap like last event
(just for a little back story, the last x3 event we had started on a Thursday, people thought the cap would reset and so they grinded out their new Wednesday cap in just one day, but when Thursday came through the cap wasnt' reset and tons of people were screwed over until Friday when CCP realized "oh crap we just f*d up" and reset the cap an additional time. This really screwed over a lot of people who thought they were doing the smart thing. This benefitted me because by the end of that event I was able to make use of THREE cap resets...... all because I just waited one more day to start playing over other people)
This idea counters ^^^^^^ from ever happening by making it so people don't have to save their bonus pool until an event starts. And its really not even complicated..... just take the system we already have, and make sure it always starts on a Wednesday reset. That's all. Nothing more. We don't need any of this "weekend only" BS that somebody thought up. Just for the execution of the already established system to improve.......
I LOVE RANTS. Feel free to troll, or criticize however you want. It really doesn't bother me that the event is basically on a holiday weekend, but it does bother me to think that somebody in CCP thought that condensing the event time from 7 to 3 days would decrease player "obligation to play"....... AND IT BOTHERS ME EVEN MORE THAT THIS GAME MAKES PEOPLE FEEL OBLIGATED TO PLAY TO BEGIN WITH.......
Honestly, if it were up to me I would just say F IT to the SP cap, and let people grind out as much as they choose to..... But that's just me. |
