Is there a way in which you can increase the blast falloff on mass drivers? I believe this would maintain the original area denial aspect of the weapon, while still not providing a simply fire and forget weapon as it seems to be now.
A falloff increase would still allow the psychological aspect of the weapon, as it previously was used to create, and would also maintain it's usefulness at close range for a skilled user. The sole differentiating factor would be the capability of the user. I believe I can speak for the majority of the original mass driver community when I say that the challenge of the weapon was a great deal of its appeal. The only folks this change would offend are those that use this weapon as the "flavour of the month".
I was, unfortunately, one of the folks asking you to fix this weapon earlier in the builds. At the time , it seemed appropriate given the weakness of the weapon. I'm afraid you have, as you suggested would happen, "created a monster".
I obviously have not a clue the manner you code works, but if it's possible a falloff increase could produce a sizable difference.
I, for one, almost feel guilty using the weapon now, and I was one of the folks "whining" to you to fix them - community's words, not yours. |

I use em and I wouldn't mind, It would just make sense, AoE weapons should affect a wide range but just lose their effectiveness at different ranges, a grenade is harmful at 15 meters but it won't do the same amount of damage as someone standing above one. There's no reason a mass driver shot should do the same damage if it explodes on the wall behind them as if it were on the floor 5 meters away. |

At least it would eliminate the balancing issue, then you could bring the range up as much as you want and not **** people off because only people in the "lethal" range would be affected substantially. |

I don't think you understand what fire & forget is.......... Anyways, a slight lowering of the splash damage would do it. |

It was essentially a euphemism, I was trying to avoid the contentious term of "spam".
And, no, I don't agree with a reduction in raw damage, that reduces the utility of the weapon for those who know how to use it. That isn't the point. |
