I'd really like to start a thread to get a good and informative discussion on profile signatures going.
I know I myself and I'm sure countless others in the DUST community aren't 100% sure on how profile signatures and profile dampening is supposed to work.
Playing as a Gallente Scout with level three in the skill that reduces your PS and level two in the Gal Scout (grants 5% PS reduction per level), I figure I should rarely, if ever show up on enemy radar. There has been numerous times where I have successfully flanked a lone enemy that has ZERO red dots around him for me to sneak about behind them, get about five meters out behind them, and have them suddenly whirl around and catch me with my pants down. This baffles me...I shouldn't be on their radar and no one else is around to "spot" me yet they whirl around as if suddenly aware of my presence.
So my question is does the reduction to PS only reduce it to Active Scanners? I've seen a message pop up several times saying something of the sort to: "You Have Failed to Be Scanned" which I think then displays on the enemy's scanner "Some Margin of Error" because I was unable to be scanned down.
I refrain from equipping profile dampening modules because I've heard they're broken and are just plain useless, but if equipped do they lower both your "passive" PS and your "active scanner" PS, or does it just make you harder to be scanned when an enemy uses the active scanner?
I truly hate to be "that guy" but I feel the realm of Profile Signatures and Profile Dampening along with Passive Scanning (your radar in the corner) is a very murky area that isn't clearly explained.
I'd appreciate responses from anyone who grasps this concept better than I, and can explain it in a way that we all may benefit from the knowledge.
Thanks. |

Yes, you should never show up on medium or heavy suits scanner unless they have a scan precision enhancer or two equipped or are aiming right at you. Its likely just players with situation awareness that looks around often enough.
Scan profile and precision affects both active and passive scanners, its the same system.
The system isnt broken, its just not useful enough.
Oh and it doesnt penetrate any types of walls or other objects which the system even more useless. |

Im going with you were just unlucky in that instance since a lot of people who have FPS experience learned a long time ago to check their corners and their backs Now granted there are times when I will have scouts pop on my radar from a significant distance but Im pretty sure that has something to do with them being in my direct line of sight, as in we are both slinking around in the hills somewhere and hes actually on my screen when he pops on the radar |
