Oh, wait. Yeah, I was also wondering about that when people started talking about it...
My mind thought back to when the PS3 was being announced and remember something about the PS3 being Linux based somewhere somehow in the system....
Thanks for reminding me of this. o7 +1 |

Then why is it there as an option, and why is it everytime I do it I get a prompt saying that I have corrupt files? |

Isn't rebuilding database on the Ps3 similar to de-fraging a pc? |

I wouldn't think so, no matter what platform its o n a database is a database is a database. They can get corrupted like any file.
Defragging (on a windows pc) moves the data, so if you're using a program its not looking all over the hard drive for it, it prolongs the hard drives life.

defragging on a PC moves data so it's all together for the same file instead of spread out over the disk. there is performance boost because the disk doesn't have to read a bunch of fragments to read the whole file.
fsck (filesystem check) in linux compares the data in the file against a journal and/or index to see if the file data is still correct. if it's not correct, it can sometimes be corrected or the "bad" file is deleted or moved toa "lost & found" directory.

However there is a system file restore....which when I have used it severely eliminates any freezing I might have on the Ps3. |

PS jason my alt appreciated the logi praise. Actually I just had it come up as I lost power at my place. I believe rebuilding the database is somewhat similar to either file checking the disk or actually rewriting the core of the system saved on some hardcoded CMOS or whatever that thing is that has hard encoded memory.
In any case, I think it acts more as a fail safe rather than a defrag. |

In other words, since you have done it once (from the sound of it), you can now only do it four more times. |

um the fan thing is a myth you realize this right? The infact you have a chance of completely frying your system if you do that fan technique. The file system restore is good to do though. |

Apparently that's some sort of restore option? I had a problem a problem with my ps3 where my games werent reading correctly (as in not playing) and in fact, the blu ray lense was burned out.
The operator told me by using that option, it would remove any files that were corrupt, not to fix them. The only main targets that the option restores is the patch updates that come with the game, whether its corrupted or not, the notification saying," PS3 files are corrupted" always comes up.

Thanks for reminding me of this. o7 +1 You used to be able to do it without any hitches. But Sony stopped letting that be an option so now the only way is to crack your PS3. |
