Hey there. I'm writing here because I do read Hans' excellent blog and the CPM updates here quite often but it struck me that there was a divergence in what everyone seems to refer to as "new content" when talking about patches and the patch cycle.
After reading the 1.4 patch notes, apart from some new maps, I didn't see the "content" portion, but that got me thinking is that for me new content is "new things to do", as in "try new weapons", "try new suits", "try new game modes", etc.
Naturally, CCP's version of "new content" is perhaps different to what the players feel is new content, and might also be different to what the CPM believes is new content or not.
Obviously 1.4 has lots of "content" in terms of fixes and balances but when we talk of new "content" to come it's perhaps not the same thing. The new daily rewards and login screen is of course new content, but is it something new to do? not really. The new maps, definitely.
I also realised the whole roadmap seems a bit opaque at the moment. I'm eager to see the full range of racial suits, as well as some PVE content down the line, even a new weapon or two, or a new vehicle (even though I don't vehicle much), and maybe a new game mode or a new EVE style interaction. Without breaking NDA's, do you have visibility on which patches are going to be "balancing" patches and which ones will actually have new "content"?
Although it is perhaps my personal misguided interpration of things, but I felt 1.4 and the 1.5 patches will just be balacing/fixing stuff and not any real new content in the true sense of the term.
Any clarifications and constructive opinions welcome.

CPM typically uses the term similarly in public consumption that content are tangible and notable differences. The new map, and new welcome screen are parts of that along with performance improvements, and aim changes, along with armor changes which will have massive direct impact on the way quite a few people play. As for how CCP uses the term its up to them, but really some players would start a massive hissy fit if CCP tried to sell them 'content' that doubled the frames per second in a congested battle. There is also players that hate the idea of new shiny and abhor the idea of new content.
As for racial equality expect it sooner than some people are exuberating it at. Remember art is not the bottleneck here some of the models for the things been around for some time but they're missing all sorts of other things like sounds, physics, stats and many more things which require more work. I would love to tell you when on the roadmap this is expected but its under the NDA.
1.5 is going to continue infantry work with hopefully controls out of the way, and start the traumatizing work on vehicles as already stated. There are few more other major features that are attempting to ship with 1.5 but I will have to look around to see if those are public knowledge or permission of such.
As for the CPM's own knowledge of when stuff will get done we're usually not that better informed than you guys are, the only things we're armed with is the knowledge of things that are on the way and are being worked on. For example we have pretty good guestimates of when the next two outpost maps are going to come out and how they look like but we have no idea if they're promised for that as all development is subject to delays, bugs, and myriad of other issues like the previous example of racial equality which is pending the last touches. |

Great response - I understand it a bit more now. In any case, keep up the good work. :) |
