As an occasional (aka situational) tanker the invisible Forge Gunners and Invisible Swarms are a distraction. They are expensive and irritating, in part because until we got grass the grows as we walk along in our pretty suits it Never happened. Now, it is the default situation.
However, this is two, too much.
I am standing at a Supply Depot in Line Harvest Domination. Near where the normal B objective is. It is being fired upon by some stubborn Swarmer. Which is fine. I am repairing it so the odds are high that their Hive will run out before the Supply Depot goes down.
I would Love to tell my squad or team where the swarms are coming from but these are Yet More Invisible Swarms. I am a Logi Bro. Repairing a Supply Depot that is getting shot by Swarms that I cannot determine from where.
What the Kitten is the excuse for this? I know the mumbling Kitten **** that is usually dribbled out from the Devs but I was Not in a Freaking Tank. A standard Minmatar Logi Suit should not have invisible swarms to make the pretty, pretty grass make the pretty, pretty Red Swarmer invisible along with the entire track of their swarms. I should be able to see weapons tracks like Swarms, Forges, Rail Guns and Blasters on the mini-map. Not fancy graphics with contrails and proper shading of the smoke trails, just a stinking line saying, "you got shot from there".
This entire situation sucks. Is way past getting old and is inexcusable.
Game Play First. Game Play First. Game Play First.
What is so hard about that concept? |

Invisible swarms are a joke.
I made a new character recently to experiment with tanks.
I accepted that being a new armor tanker, my madrugar isn't going to take a ton of punishment. Well it takes even less than that, good forge gunners and proto swarms mess up my tank no matter what I fit and no matter if I have all modules active.
I understand my basic level tank wont be as powerful as it should be vs proto level av weaponry. That much I can deal with, although for new players it will be frustrating.
The actual PROBLEM is invisible swarms. I have no idea where they are coming from. So I even tried going with the railgun , sitting at range and sniping any would be swarm-ers. It works great. UNTILL the invisible swarms come from god knows where to kill you.
The missiles dont render, enemy bodies dont render unless they are close which is a joke too. Please CCP work on this. |

Not always for long and many times the best advice is GTFO and recall the vehicle to save some ISK or AUR. Dealing with invisible Swarms and Forge Guns is bad enough as a Tanker. I finally convinced one Tanker I normally Gun for that I couldn't see the Swarmers from the Top Turret either. That was this week.
Now seeing the problem as a Merc on the ground just was too aggravating. I read all the draw distance optimization responses from the Devs and that just falls apart when I am standing at the target and cannot find the Swarmer. Beyond frustrating and way past stupid when none of the incoming rounds (all Swarms) showed a single trail.

To make this even worse I followed a Dev posting asking about dropping System->Options->Detail = Low. I also tried both options of draw distance or whatever it is called, just below Detail in the list.
Frankly I found no difference between them in the various combinations.
I play at a desk with an Asus monitor, 27" HDMI and other connections. It is very crisp and while DUST used to be fine the Famous Draw Distance Optimization to enable the Growing Grass has rendered it moot. Very nice for other games. |

Fun fact! When swarms are invisible, they also make no sound
So you after flying your dropship away from AV, you wait a minute and consider it pretty safe to go back in.
Once you've reached full momentum forward toward the enemy you are INSTANTLY down to half health and burning because you flew head first into a Swarm of invisible, silent SWERMZ!
Now you're stuck in the middle. You can either keep going forward and hit some more. Or try to turn back, Which will slow you down and you'll be hit by some more
TL;DR, You're dead.

Dude, invisi-swarm bros and invisi-forge-gunners are hard to deal with as a tanker with over 7-8k hp and my heavy reps. You must struggle in a derp ship. |
