If you've ever played Battlezone for the PC or Rise of the Black Dogs for the N64, you know what I'm talking about already.
Basically whenever a vehicle is destroyed on the battlefield, it should drop an amount of scrap metal. The metal can be scavenged using a modified version of the repair tool as a kind of "mining" device, OR maybe it can be picked up by walking over it and pressing a button similar to a revive, OR you find a spot on the ground and the hacking circle shows up as your progress of collection...
That can be decided later...here's where things get interesting.
The scrap metal can then be deposited at a supply depot or something, or maybe a new installation like a vehicle factory/garage, and the weight is recorded on your personal profile as to how much you own. Either that, or it just magically appears in your assets when you walk over it.
Scrap metal can be used to lower/pay the cost of vehicles and possibly vehicle parts (turrets maybe?) so that more users can use vehicles. ____________________
The reason I bring this up is because of one major feature that still hasn't been implemented yet: Installation deployment.
The scrap metal idea can work well with installations too as they are most likely going to be expensive. The problem is, not everyone wants to spend their isk on vehicles and installations if they can spend that same isk on their dropsuits. With scrap metal, players would be able to purchase these expensive items more readily.
As a last note, Players who scavenger for scrap metal will not be useless to their team. Most of the time, it will be an added reward for destroying an LAV that got too close to you, or more incentives for AV players. When installation deployments are here, players with lots of scrap metal will be able to deploy a lot of them, and in key positions to aid their team. I would also support a commander role who sits back and drops turrets to overwatch an objective, or a Supply depot for players to change up their tactics/restock. |

Seems to me that this would make vehicle users want to be AV infantry with this mining equipment. Which would be just a little annoying. |

It'd be pretty cool to be able to salvage minerals and other goods for use in the industry side of things. |

In battlezone, the whole idea was to send your scavengers out to collect scrap metal so you could build turrets and tanks to fight by your side. You also had a recycler which would be able to turn the scrap metal into usable material, and the Factory, that would produce all of your ships and such.
The cool part was that you had massive tank battles on the planets, and if you blew up, your pilot would be ejected and would have to find another ship or tank to steal and use. The only objective was to destroy the enemy's recycler...so I guess it had a lot of RTS elements...but it was still a cool concept. |

Giving AV another purpose? I like. I don't like when a role is restricted to one action so broadening the jobs of different roles is always a good thing to me.
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST. |

you can salvage things like turrets and hulls in PC so it's not that far of a stretch to do something like that I think. I'd like to see the salvage drop rate in pubs be increased to be similar but not the same as PC so you can pick up bits of whatever the person you're fighting's using. |

Well, the AV guy would just Have the tool on hand and collect it before you get to the wreck sight, so pointless. |
