okay guys, so i'm just now learning how to code, i only some some basics, on a very beginer program, and i kid you not it took me 40 minutes to program 4 stars with pictures inside them, all of them rotated the same way, and mirrored so they formed a diamond on the inside. 40 minutes just to make a cool, nonmoving, image.
now think about CCP, they are overwhealmed with all this stuff people are asking them to do, nerf this, buff this, add this, remove that. but honestly just think how much work it actually is to do something really really simple. and if it doens't work u gotta start halfway over again to possibly get it right, and they also have to make sure that EVE stays stable the server stays stable, it doesn't create glitches, and it has to be a moving item with animations. think about how long it takes to do all of those things, and get it to work.
so i created this just to tell you CCP that you are doing an awesome job meeting all of your deadlines, and keep up the good work. i have soo much more respect for what you guys are doing, and i now understand how much you guys really do for us. but still all of these people come on the forums and demand things to be done pronto. they have no idea what your job is like.
so i hope this gets some of the haters off your back :D |

I remember when I use to be an freeware, third-party, addon developer for the Microsoft Flight Simulator community (mainly in SimViation) where I had to spend months trying to figure out how to model a somewhat decent airplane, carefully animate control surfaces, landing gears, and canopies, compile XML code in text format that looks like a bunch of gibberish just to tell the system where the center of gravity is at, the weight of the aircraft, the location of contact points to determine the hit box, the angle of the control surfaces, the output of the engine and its location, location of the pilot and passengers, etc. in a way that doesn't put the aircraft out of balance or overweight.
Then there was the separate XML code needed to determine how the instruments in the instrument panel work which, by themselves, is a daunting task that took me a week just to even get a basic understanding of and even then there were glitches.
There was also an issue where my model would work properly in my computer, but as soon as someone else tries it on their own computer, the model is not behaving or rendering as it should because that person has a different Windows OS, or a different .NET Framework, that's causing problems.
And this is just basics here. Building a game from the ground up, especially first-person shooters, has to be a monstrous task at best. |

you know being a musician is hard work too.
to be really good it takes thousands of hours of practice..
I remember when I started playing guitar just trying to make a chord on the fret board was an agonizing endeavor... but eventually not only could I make a chord I could do scales and even go back and forth between parts of scales and chords fluently, without effort...
but just because musicianship is a difficult skill im not gonna give a crappy band my money or praise...
I can only imagine like any other skill intensive profession, eventually things get easier, and later challenges get exponentially more complex... CCP coders could probably make your star picture in a few minutes tops, with their eyes closed, while being on the receiving end of an enema...
im not taking anything away from the fact that coding is hard, but like the musician they don't get a pass for being bad because its hard... if they aren't up to the challenge they should move on, not expect our understanding... im speaking from the perspective of a paying customer who bought a product (400$ bucks into this game here)... I support CCP and believe in them.... but im also a bit salty and expect more out of them... your argument for laying off them is at best flimsy to me. |

yes, being a musician is very hard work and requires alot of practise, but usually once you have something down, practising it many many times, you remember it. it's a defined way to do something. (do you write your own music) maybe, that takes talent to make a good song and do it right, but normally a band isn't good cause you don't like that genre or they don't practise enough.
with coding, there isn't a memory, you have to write your own code to make something work, and that can take weeks, and if it beta tests and doesn't work then you gotta restart on it. plus unlike plucking a guitar, which only takes half a second to move your finger, coding requires lines and lines of typing. your fingers can only move so fast and still be accurate, because if you even mess one paramater, or text in the code something could screw up. where as in a live concert (not saying it isn't hard cause it is) if you are a second off or something, it honestly isn't going to make that big of a difference.
and honestly i'm not saying this is an excuse for games. and personally this game isn't crap, i love this game it just needs alot of work. but hey, it's a beta. it's not supposed to be all worked out and stuff, it isn't a fully released game yet.
but yes people do need to lay off of them, because most games cost 60 dollars (plus any bonus content you buy) this game is entirely free (unless you buy bonus content) and that is an entire reason to give them a little more slack, they aren't giving us a product, they are providing a service to us (in the form of a product) |

on your first point I would say practicing many times does help but every live performance is its own unique rendition... the song is like an engine in this way (and we are using loose analogies here) the carbon and unreal engines are like the song... the performance is the coding.
on your point that writing code taking weeks... writing songs can be the same arduous process.. weeks of working out a melody (or lyrics or), only to scrap it and start again and again in a live performance, if the drummer drops the timing on the beat, or the conductor flubs the tempo that can and has thrown everyone off ruining the song...
I agree this game isn't crap, but it is also not living up to the hype, and CCP has done some terrible things to this game simply cause they didn't heed the communities advice. I also agree it is a beta, but they did "officially release" the game which is equivalent to the whole bush "mission accomplished" thing. it was disingenuous, and a bit embarrassing.
I also agree if you don't buy anything you have less right to complain... but I chose to in support of CCP, that's my choice...I know, but I am a paying customer, they aren't just providing me a service they are also providing me a product... if that product isn't ready to ship, then they shouldn't be acting like this game is released and selling me anything....they don't deserve the best of both worlds here, no company does... you are either testing a product or marketing it... but you cant market its testing while pretending to market a product... which is what they have done by saying its officially released but in reality so obviously far from that...
again I will state I do support CCP, I buy their stuff (eve account too) but I have a right to speak my mind as do the thousands of other customers who indeed have bought dust through boosters, BPs, AUR etc etc...
I could just walk away, many have...I still may one day...some people go to far in their complaints of CCP and DUST, but a lot of us are justifiably upset and just want to see this game succeed and as a side note not feel they wasted their own time and money. is it really to much to ask CCP to get their crap together so we can all win here? |

okay bro, we get it, go tell CCP how much they suck and how much you hate them somewhere else. I dedicated this post to get all of the positive thoughts, on how much we love CCP, encourage them to keep doing good.
there are so few of these happy posts, and you kinda made it a negative one, there are probably hundreds of posts telling CCP what they are doing wrong, go to one of those and leave this post alone, for other people who want to thank CCP |

lol I refuse to let you blow undeserved smoke up their butts on these forums....
I never said I hate them, I was having a civil debate with you...
if that makes you salty tough cookies...
I respect what CCP is doing, I don't respect how they have gone about it...
unlike you I don't give out blind compliments I compliment where its deserved (their ideas and their vision)
I criticize where deserved (their delivery, their unfulfilled promises to the community) |

I refuse to back down and let negativity be the norrm in this particular thread. I support CCP anyways. Besides, you try pointing out another company that even lets you vote in a player-run council that has stakeholder power with the company. |

while I don't want to be openly confrontational with a fellow d uni in the public forums, you have left me no choice.
im not being negative, im being realistic.
I have pointed out I support them and I prove it with my wallet, that also gives me, to some degree, the right to voice my opinion...in ANY THREAD, in the public forums... I am part of this community.
if you are referring to the CPM I have to lol at you... CCP doesn't listen to them, all they have is a fancy name with no teeth, for that matter not only does CCP not listen to them, they don't listen to anyone but their coveted metrics and this game has suffered for it... if you disagree with that then you're blind.
the fact is there is a minority of blindly loyal fans, and there is a minority of loyal but disgruntled fans, like my self... the majority doesn't play this game at all, because by most people's account its a poor game. the 2 minorities I mentioned are actually on the same side, we both believe in this game, want it to succeed and actually have fun playing it.
the only difference between the 2 is the former will take any amount of abuse CCP can dish out, the latter expects more from the company that has told people for years to HTFU....
I think its funny that a loyal fan such as myself cant criticize CCP for good reason and still be recognized by people like you and the OP as being a fan simply because ive chosen to be realistic instead of a lapdog....
its not negativity... its the truth. |

i've posted sooo many forum posts about what CCP has done wrong with this game, as i'm sure you have too. but every once and a while, you just need a little praise to keep going, so i'm giving CCP a little praise, and congratulating them for making the game. Plus they are super dedicated to making monthly updates now, and that is alot of hard work, if they wanted to they could go back to updating once in a blue moon. they are actively working on making the game better, it is gunna take some time, you gotta realize that
(also i've also given my money to CCP, and lots of people have so you technically don't have any more rights than i have on the forums(i refuse to play well how much money did u pay game)) |

I agree with all of this...and to that I say good going and keep it up CCP I appreciate your work...
my original "beef" with your post was, and im paraphrasing here, " lets back off of CCP and give them praise because coding is hard"
but everything you just said...CCP has my support and thanks as well. |
