Are we going to get a blog on the new matchmaking changes and what has been done to balance out matches better? I am really curious as to what variables are being used to determine whether or not a match is reasonably balanced.
Is it based off SP, KDR, WP, ISK, being in a squad, time spent playing, previous match success/failure or gear? I'm guessing it's not based off one thing, but likely a mixture.
But it would be nice to know how it is being orchestrated. Getting the community involved and letting us know what has been done may reveal loopholes, or flaws, in the design and get them squashed before it becomes an issue. |

Ok speculation time. The devs said previously that the new matchmaking would be based off player skill/talent. But what defines skill? No one variable (KDR, SP etc) really defines it. The only real way to define skill is from actual in-match results and success. Which possibly means that the new matchmaking system may not have anything to do with our recorded KDR, SP, WP accumulation or any of that, but instead gathers information on a match by match basis.
So what i think may be happening is that players will be awarded a "score" after each match. Mostly likely based entirely on WP. Cause if a logi does well, they get a ton of WP but may have gotten many deaths. If an assault does well, they will likely have high WP and high KDR. I think this would apply to each class in the game, and signifies that WP earned in an individual match is akin to a players overall skill.
So back to the scoring system. Lets say one team dominates the other, the top 5 players have over 1000 WP, whereas on the other team the top 5 may have 500 or less WP. If you were to combine these two teams and rank based on WP earned, the majority of the dominating team would be on the top of the scoreboard, and the losing team would be towards the bottom.
So lets say the top player is awarded 20 'talent points', the second player is awarded 18 'talent points' the third player is awarded 16 'talent points' so on and so fourth (ideally the points awarded would be based off how much WP they got, but I'm keeping it simple).
So say these players do the same in the next 4 matches, the top player would have accumulated a total of 100 'talent points', and as a result, they would get matched against other players who also have 100 'talent points'. So lets say they get dominated in the 6th match, and don't receive any 'talent points', well they would still be at 100 TP, while the players that dominated him would move onto a higher tier of players since their TP would have raised significantly.
I think you get what I am saying here. But I think it's very possible the new MM system could be using this kind of ranking based on individual match performance rather than player stats, SP, or gear.
