Implemented idle timer to prevent AFK farming in battle ground or MCC. Players not performing any PVP action in a certain period of time will be kicked out of the game
How long is the timer? I like to find a really great spot and snipe. If I find a sweet spot I am going to exploit it as much as possible. I camp at objectives and prevent it from being taken over, so does this mean I cant defend the objective? I like to try and remain active but I am not going to rush into a death trap with a sniper rifle. A sniper rifle has no chance against an AR. Also does this apply to only the MCC and the red line or the whole map? |

If your spot is that "sweet" you shouldn't be idle that long. |

I'm pretty sure as long as you earn a little wp it shouldn't be a problem. |

#124 Posted: 2013.08.23 16:44 | Report Like 8 Other thing, the scanner changes prompted me to skill a little into scanning, made a little sniper hunter fit, and I can honestly say that scanning a rooftop sniper and hunting him down, is one of the most fun things I have done in a long time.
Not only killing them, but the "You have been scanned" message seems to have a remarkable negative effect on one's desire to remain motionless, so even if not proceeding to kill them, I am at least helping the team, by flushing out the foxhole. /end quote
I will be spec'n into a bit of scanning just to scare snipers. This sounds like fun. |

Yeah I was wondering this myself. I guess it just depends on how long the timer is. The timer for kicking somebody out of a match for not spawning is just slightly over 5 mins, so I wonder if it's using that same interval.
Also the kick timer for not spawning is cumulative. So say the timer is 5 mins and 30 seconds, if you are idle for 5 mins and 20 seconds, spawn in the match and play a bit, then die. Well if you spend more than 10 seconds on the spawn window, you get kicked. This has happened to me in the past, and not sure if it has ever gotten fixed.
So if the inactive timer is cumulative as well, we may see issues arising with players getting kicked even though they are active most of the time, but happen to have a few mins here and there in which they did not PVP.
And as for defending objectives, this could pose a problem. I serious team against a serious team will need to have players guarding objectives, and may even go most of the match without any activity. So while they are actively participating in the match, they could get kicked. |

As a sniper, there's no reason for you to be completely motionless when you find that "sweet spot." Even if you're just targeting a node for defense--keep that scope swinging and scan your surroundings for any potential threats, especially if you have a mic and can warn your teammates of enemies trying to sneak up on them.
I've certainly find my own "sweet spots" on each match and I've noticed that many other snipers like those same spots...so you can rest assured that they'll definitely be looking for you! |

Has there been a definition given by CCP that states what PvP action is and isn't yet? While I have my own ideas, CCP probably has another. Snipers camping an objective, not firing Logi's not firing but using injectors, rep tools, hives/links, scanning Defenders behind the line not firing Things like that might not be considered PvP action by the Devs as rounds aren't being sent down range. What if someone goes 0/0/0 but is actively earning WP's (anyone with a link or hive)?
We need a Dev official definition spelled out as much as possible. Maybe it's just me though. |
