Just a theory as to why these two weapons affect vehicles path/trajectory.
Forge gun = super slug piercing munitions(made up) but that's the general concept.
Flaylock pistol = compact short range high explosive projectile.
Use this example. We have two marble rocks. They're nice marble rocks. Big round marble rocks, on a cliff. We also have a Barrett .50 cal anti material/personel rifle(forge gun) & a m203 grenade launcher(flaylock pistol) The objective is to fire one round at the seperate marble rocks from both weapon platforms in hopes of sending them over the cliff.
Both shots are taken at 120 yds and the rocks are 5 ft in diameter.
We start with the .50 cal. The shot is taken and the round easily piercing it's rock, embedding itself almost 3 ft inside with a fair chunk of the rock chipped away. The .50 cal caused considerable damage to the rock, but do to bullet's piercing nature, it hardly caused the rock to move.
Now we have the m203 grenade launcher. The shot is taken at the same distance with very different results. Due to the explosive nature of the grenade launcher, the rock is easily sent over the cliff with light surface damage left to see.
Now think of your dropship/lav as the rock and the .50 cal as the forge gun. The forge gun will cause considerable amounts of piercing damage to your vehicle, but only move it to a moderate degree. The forge gun round pierced more than it pushed.
Now the same scenario, but now with the m203 grenade launcher as the flaylock. The flaylock will cause little to none piercing damage to your vehicle, but will cause a considerate amount of kinetic(pushing) damage. The flaylock will push alot more than it pierces.
This is my crack pot theory on why the flaylock moves dropships & lavs more than a forge gun. If swarms followed this, people would rage

The forge gun is a railgun- much more powerful than a 50 call. The projectile might even be slightly larger than the slugs that tank railguns fire. |

Regardless of the size and power of the forge gun, isn't it still inended to rip and pierce the target? |

Its more that you could have the same amount of mass as a grenade round, but you magnetically charge it into a much larger plasma sphere. When you hurl it at something, a lot of its electrical and heat energy are going to be what is transferred to the target. Electicity and heat won't move things.
However, explosive and kinetic energy are transferred into whatever you hit with a lot more efficiency. |

The rock should have a higher inertia threshold to overcome before it can move so, yeah.
Besides, this is a video game and we're dealing with a universe that has no issues with tiny little modules that spew out human beings. Fun/interesting > realism. |

It's a rail gun, not a plasma cannon. Regardless, the energy is proportional to velocity^2, the faster you go the more energy you have. It is estimated that a relativly small slug, fist sized, can have as much, if not more, energy and damage potential than a standard sized cruise missile. It ofcourse depends on the size and power of the rail gun firing it. |
