So after reading a bunch of threads over however long I've been lurking around the forums, I have some questions based off of threads dealing with Heavies. I'm not trying to open old wounds here, just trying to get closure for my own sense of order.
(I apologize if there has been concrete answers to these questions, I can't read everything AND keep a real life)
Heavies: Why is it that the heavy has been shoved into the defense only role? Is it the description of the Sentinel or the name itself? We only have one racial heavy plus the basic suit, of one race out. Was it something a Dev said somewhere and were they refering to the Amarr version or all of them? Why does it seem that many want all the heavies to have the same role?
That's all I got, thanks for whatever answers are provided. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
While I'm at it and completely unrelated:
Where did BAD FURRY go? He terrorized me in a tank for like five minutes in a match way back when. On line Harvest near one of the towers. I was in a Dragonfly scout suit, he was in one of those beast tanks. All I could do was run around a corner and hide, wait for him to move forward to shoot me then I would run back the way I came from. He finally quit trying to kill me. I took it as a win for me. I had only been playing for about two or three weeks at that point. It was awesome. I want to return the favor with some AV now. (yeah, it's taken me that long to get around to spec'ing into decent AV... I'm lazy) |

Heavies didn't like the defensive role.
*Switched to Forge Guns and found assault Forge Gun incredibly good*
Now they like to snipe people from towers.

Certain people want to pigeon hole the heavy because that's their opinion about what a heavy is suppose do. Now, CCP gave the community a suit which seems to back up this claim by giving it 4 low slots, and 1 highslot. So an armor tanking suit basically which = slow moving heavy which = to a more defensive role.
Problem here is, some heavies would rather be more of an attacking / front line moving heavy. The basic suits allow this with its 2 high slots, and 3 lows. It's still somewhat a defending suit but it can dual tank, or stack armor plates, and stack dmg mods...
If there were more racial suits, then the heavies role or place on the battlefield will be more diverse. The Minmitar heavy I suspect will be the fastest heavy suit, so heavies that like to play fast will like these. Shield tankers will like the Caldari suit, which is a good front line suit as well due to it not needing armor to have HP.
When will CCP give heavies a choice? Who knows. |

As a old Heavy(been Logi since build-after-E3), and a close friend of a current heavy, they tend to be fine with the defensive role provided they have a means to do it. As for why most people seem to enforce that, most people are Assault, in name or in playstyle. They want to be the good at all roles guy, and if Heavy shows even an inkling of attack capability it horns in on their WP.
As for BAD FURRY, he's been gone for eons and good riddance. He was the single largest Swarmwhore during the first build :p. He rode the Sagaris's ridiculous HP values to victory, but even my Madrugar was more than a match for him at the time. Me and a friend of mine used to make a game of who could kill him first using a single Soma apiece. I don't tank anymore, but those were good times... good times... |

I love playing a heavy. I don't mind the slower overall movement or some of the other current short comings. I'm generally a patient sort of guy so I can wait, not that I have a choice... I don't really post on the heavy issues as others generally beat me to it and it's usually a better thought out post than I'd make. Generally. ;p
I just wanted to ask others and see what their perspective on it was. I just don't understand why people get so worked up and bent out of shape over a role they don't play in a game they didn't have to pay for. I thought the whole point was to have some fun. What's more fun than fun for free? But I think there's something to the whole horning in thing. Not gunna say anymore on that, it'll turn into a rant.
As far as BF, that's a shame, I was hoping he was running an alt that I could go after, figuring that his other accounts got banned or something. No balancing the books with that one I guess.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Hope to see you on the field. |

Somewhere along the line a Dev referenced them as Point-Defense. Of which they are decent enough for mid-range on elevated ground with a FGs. Have had less luck close-in defense with the HMGs inside the outposts.
While cruising in my Ishukone Watch Saga it isn't about defense or offense. Mainly hunting turrets, tanks, snipers, and taking on other contestants in Death Race 514.
Some loons out there are putting mobility mods in the lows for a new take on Heavies. I have no idea if it is effective. Those fits are definitely not defensive. |

Best part of the whole game is pushing a well defensed objective with a HMG. Solo or squaded, win or lose, every red in that area gets a little nervous and has your tag noted. That's respect.

No, the best part is when anysuit gets within 5 feet of my hmg and dies almost instantly.
Worst part is when they just sprint past me and I can't turn quick enough to engage them and have to dance around a box with them. |

For me, The worst part is pushing forward and realizing no one came with you because a blue dot is gunna blue dot.
The best part is when pushing forward by yourself works. It's a drug. And it's addictive... |

My name is Ryno. I'm a Gallente, but I like to dress in Heavy Amarr frames. I just can't get enough armor. I go through 700 HP several times a day. I'll even use a few thousand shields just to hold me over between reps. I bottomed out and started using nanite injectors, but it just isn't the same and the buzz isn't that good. My logibro says he's getting this new Allotek nano **** straight from Molden Heath. But you know how logibros are... one minute they're your best friend, then just when you need them, they're off messing with some [STARTER FIT] *****. All of this talk got me jonesing. I wanna get higher than Manus Peak. Anybody got a rep tool and some nanites? Meet me out back. I'm in the yellow Limbus.

Heavies are defensive because they're slow. In Dust, slow and steady gets killed by area-denial weapons and run over by LAVs. |
