I agree with the comparision for this reason: in both cases substantial technology had to be conceived, developed and tested before progress forward was possible. In the case of DUST there's an awful lot of behind-the-scenes plumbing and wiring that we as players just don't see.
And a lot of that CCP has done first, on their own. A lot was done before we even started beta testing. It would be nice to be able to quantify how much of the DUST codebase is 'FPS' code vs. how much is 'New Eden' & CREST code.
Adev blog on the nitty-grutty plumbing(at least what could be reasonably revealed) would be up there on the uuber-cool geek scale. |

Still a big difference comparing development of a game to development of a vehicle to send a man to the moon.
Did those tax payers actively use the products developed by NASA during the development process? Therefore having opinions and insight to the development process? No.
Did those tax payers choose to give their money to NASA in return for a product or service? No.

See there is the difference. You have a choice to pay CCP money for this game or not. F2P. Means just that. Any money involved is purely your choice.

I do not see the problem when the customer is a jerk, I am supprised they are still participating in the General Discussion forum with all the immature players. I would have given up a long time ago and found another job.
It does not give you the right to be a ******* just because you are a customer. The guys working at CCP are normal persons just like you and me. Treat them with respect and be well-behaved and I am sure they will answer nicely and do their best to help you or you would be the customer from hell then every sales person runs away from or hands over to the newest employed. |

You really that thick?
Did they willfully choose to give their money to NASA? No.
Did those taxpayers receive a product or service for that money? No
Which makes the comparison to NASA's development of manned space flight by CCP irresponsible and completely irrelevant.

I don't know what industry you work in but on a daily basis I deal with complete idoits, assholes and downright rude customers. Does that give me the right to ignore their suggestions or treat them with any less respect? Hell No, I keep a smile on my face and do my best to appease them without talking down to them or tell they are wrong EVEN WHEN THEY ARE!
If I maintained the same level of accountability to my customers as CCP does to theirs I'd be out of a job within hours.

Are you sure you are not treating the well behaved customers just slightly better than the ill behaved customers? I must say you are a great employee if you can handle allot of bad customers each day, all respect to you. I have often seen public service employees break down after a long day of ill behaved customers, not many are able to keep going to work everyday facing immature and complaining customers. The busdriver that start the day with a smile on his face but after a long days of customers complaining he is late due to circumstances he has no control over affect him in a way he ends up with a short temper which might hurt the mum whom was too slow at getting her kids up in the bus etc.
I do treat my customers very good, and I have no customers from hell. When I do happen to have a customer with a legit complaint I will handle it professionally, not make it personal and do my best to help him/her out. The difference here is that you have allot of immature entitled persons whom has made it personal and will do all they can to troll CPP and everyone else hiding behind an anynomous internet login |

I say customer and not customers as only a few in my opinion could use some better manners or another activity to spend their free time on. I do not feel being put into the jerk category. I am glad he spokeout and I did not read any ill meaning from his post. I would say if you took his statement personally it is because you deep inside know you have been one of the jerks.
What saddens me is that some are busy chasing the developers away from the discussion forum. how can you even start to think that behaving as some members do will get the developers to make more posts, when all their posts are trolled? |

I guess you don't read the forums a lot... quite a few of their responses are troll posts...quite a few of their promises are left undelivered, quite a few of us have played nice only to be ignored or treated like petulant children...when the product lacks luster the customer gets angry... I don't know about you but I have supported this game deeply, I have spent 400$ on it and I pay for an eve account in support of CCP I am a paying customer and im entitled to a certain level of respect and consideration... if I don't get it I will move on like any normal person... would you keep going to a restaurant that tells you to sit down shut up andeat what they give you? I doubt it....would you play a game that says its one thing and then turns out to be something quite different and not as good... obviously you would... and so do I because I have faith ccp will deliver on their promises... but faith is a fickle thing it must be re-enforced by a gracious CCP not a confrontational one... |

I would have left the restaurant after the first visit, no need to waste more time or money eating in a restaurant that I dislike. I would be crazy and psychotic if I came back to the same restaurant everyday to camp the door and spend all my time speaking ill of the food to all new customers and calling all waiters and chefs for jerks, every single day.
A normally sane person should instead do the following, check with family and friends if they know the place, check reviews if you cannot handle one evening with less than stellar food. And lastly my favorite when travelling, see if allot of locals are eating at the place, enter if it looks busy and leave it if it is empty.
I have not spend as much as you, only about 150$, which I find well spend for the time I have been entertained. I agree it could use some changes and extra content but I am overall satisfied with the product. I would guess you have spend 400$ as you think the current product is worth 400$. Else stop spending more money than you think the product is worth or instead see it as an investment. The investment can go both ways, accept the risc or find another hobby. |

I agree with you on most of your views, I think the difference is the perceived value of the product received compared to the price paid. I find it reasonable and am satisfied with what I have received. I do not see any flies at the pies, some started getting dangerously close to the food at Uprising but in my opinion they have managed to chase of the flies and continue to add new flavors to the pies. Well except for the LLAV flies, which I find very annoying, but some customers actually like these pests. The pizza hut cannot satisfy all customers but can try to satisfy enough to make a profit or the place will shut down. Having guests chasing other guests away does not help the pizza hut even if they are working hard to improve their offerings.
