Can someone explain the philosophy and execution behind Assault (Gallente), Burst (Minmatar), Breach (Caldari) or Tactical (Amarr)?
I know that it represents various firing modes--I mean I understand that from an absolute sense--but I fail to see how its relevant to the game's implementation of weapons. It seems that an auto scrambler rifle is the same as the AR, but what, then is the regular scrambler rifle? One shot/more powerful?? I don't really get it.
And I don't get how all this relates in the context of each weapon having the 4 variants or how new weapons (Rail & Combat Rifle) will relate to the others with each having 4 variants. It seems like we're just adding complexity for complexity's sake. |

Wait wait... are you asking for them to remove content? In a game where we are already missing so much of it? |

I imagine the variants originally existed as place-holders for the missing racial variants. By all rights they should be removed when the actual racial variants come out but CCP have already ruled that out. Unfortunately this just makes racial variants pretty redundant, especially since the tactical (amarr) AR out ranges the scrambler rifle that it's supposed to be imitating. |

One thing to remember: the Scrambler Rifle and Assualt Rifles (including the Tac variant) do different damage to shields and armor. The SR gets a 20% bonus vs sheilds, and a 20% reduction vs armor, whereas the AR's only get 10% bonus to shields, and 10% reduction vs armor. This is the true trade off.

I'm just wondering the value of having the 4 variants on ARs, the 4 variants on Scrambler Rifles, the 4 variants on Combat Rifles and the 4 variants on Rail Rifles.
If each variant represents "the chief aspect" of the other one's "main" style, then I certainly see value in having the variants. For example, if I have ARs trained to V, and I can get a "almost-like Scrambler-Rifle" with a Tactical AR, then that allows me to play a Scrambler Rifle-like weapon without having to feel angst at not having Scrambler Rifles specced to V. Similarly, I can get an AR-like-feeling Scrambler Rifle with an Assault Scr Rifle. So, that makes sense, if that's what's intended.
I think there should be more differentiation or at least explanation in the styles, though, since "Assault, Burst, Breach, or Tactical" aren't terribly intuitive. |
