Sampson David wrote:I wasn't expecting any major news about DUST at Gamescon or ever again. Ever since this was posted by the CPM CCP has gone completely off the radar with any communication unless its about drunken antics. What's the point in hiring LogiBro and Mintchip for community relations purpose, if they're not going to communicate with the community. I'm sure IWS will be swooping in shortly to give us a vague update followed by soon
Do you not read? Sheesh go look up the following CPM replies, CCP did reply to that letter just you guys will never hear a word of it. |

... Does the sun set on CCP at all? CCP SF* Not LA :)
... My bad. its not like SF is something that pops on the radar often, heck I think the first time I heard about it was you being there.
New Castle I knew about for a very long time. |

If dust is dead then why attack it? I mean you're afraid it might turn into a zombie? |

True there have been events in the past where sony was scheduled and both times Wonderbook ate the entire time slot. |

QFFT Consider for a moment that at any time the vast majority of what they are doing gets deemed things they can't share. If you feel that secrecy prevents usefulness why would you even care that the CPM wrote a thing at all as most of their work is secret and therefore can't do any good? ... why was I quoted? I read to see if they improved communication - found out they only increased the amount of NDA knowledge they have - and found it worthless. How can anyone say otherwise - do you know of anything useful CPM has done? Besides share with us how clueless CCP is.
There are times CCP shares something with us that well... even if it weren't NDA it wouldn't be worth the hate sharing that information as CPM members hence the whole NDA in the first place. Best we can do is poke CCP about sharing it but alas they too have standards to follow in business practices as well.
Overall the meeting was a good step forward as it gets the CPM a step closer to being a legitimate organization instead of a body of folks with no purpose or goals with noting to back them up. As of this post the CPM still doesn't have a "constitution" but its getting closer in sight and much closer to reality. If it goes through we just did in 5 months what took the CSM 5 years to accomplish. |

... Does the sun set on CCP at all? Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't it seem like what dust needs most is new technology and backbone structuring? CCP doesn't seem to be able to live up to their promises for dust on the current tech after all.
Newcastle just supports all other studios by developing and researching technology, so things they do effect ALL games from what I understand anything from better engines, to shader techniques and net code optimization and development tools to that unity engine that is likely most responsible for the EVR. There have been some pretty amazing tech being applied to the two known games so far from CCP, I mean Dust 514 is the first unreal powered game, that to me didn't feel like its unreal powered at all and that's how far removed Dust 514 is from the original engine. |

That reminds me, does CCP have any plans to either upgrade/change the engine if possible? I know that developement for dust began when unreal was still relevant but it has been outdated for years. If anything it seems like get another thing hiding this game back from its full potential. It's too bad CCP lacks the cash/resources to crest their own graphics engine developement crew like the one that made frostbite. Is their any possibility of hiring 3rd party devs? Preferably some that are already experienced in fps games? I would honestly pay a subscription fee for dust like people do for eve if 3rd party developement came in, put the game back in beta (free) for a couple months and released something that was actually anything close to what CCP originally showcased. i thought they had their own engine,CARBON, that runs EVE. But the PS3 couldn't take it so they had to switch to a cheaper engine like unreal. And i remember them saying a while ago that ex DICE members were going to help with Dust. you know DICE the guys who made battlefield, but i dont know if they work there or not.
Carbon is like frostbyte its a multi-headed engine with many various smaller parts and other parts can be ran or plugged into the engine including unreal 3, unity, destiney (eve physics) and much much more. Dust is still technically running the Carbon engine, just not the graphics component. |
