Due to impending buff to Armor, I thought it wise to make a Thread about how this wont really fix anything, but will ease the pain for the diehard Armor only, or shield Only Person.
Any smart person know, dual tank or die. Well, with this being the best way to tank, no Shield tanker gives a fart about whether armor is good, and no Armor tanker gives a fart about whether shield is good.
So, here's my thoughts. Be kind to them, it took them 15 minutes for my brain to load. Crappy Processor....
Armor
Keep the Plates the Same. Make Kin Cats boost Walk speed too. Have Kin Cats be the counter to the Armor Penalty. Move Kin Cats to Hi Slots.
Shield
Give Shields the penalty they want to give them immediately. Again, have regs be the counter to the Extender penalty. Keep Regs in Lows.
Radical Thoughts that took forever to finalize that I really made this thread to announce cause these will help more then the above fixes. Probably.
Make a new slot Type. The Mid Slot. Put all Tactical Mods here.
List of stuff to go in Mid Slots
Precision Enhancers Profile Dampers Scan Extenders (Forgot the actual name)
Melee Mods Biotics (Exempt the Kin Cats)
Sidearm Damage Mods
PG Enhancers CPU Enhancers
The Heavy and light damage Mods stay on the Hi Slots, so a shield tanker would have to sacrifice Shields for extra Firepower, and an Armor tanker would have to give up Speed for Damage.
This way, an Armor Tanker isn't hard pressed for Tank or Tactical Advantages, and Shields can't just play with whatever they want to.
One thing I could see about the Mid Slots, is that they are able to fit in the Mids, but they also could be put in either the highs, or Lows.
So a Gal Scout that wants to be Less visible on radar, but doesn't care if he's slow, can fill his Highs and Mids with Profile dampers, or a Sniper that doesn't care if he just wounds a target could fill his Highs with Sidearm Mods, along with his Mids, with his Lows being reserved for tank, or his highs being filled with extenders, and his lows with Sidearm mods.
It adds a third degree of customization that our fits current lack.
TBQH, our current fitting system is boring. You either stack as many HP mods as possible, or just die as everybody else had more HP then you.

Moving Kinetic Catalyzers to Hi-slots would be... undesirable. It would make an entire class of scouts, which are... hurting as of late, completely useless. Specifically, I am referring to Minmatar Scouts. With the change you suggest, It would make Minmatar scouts less useful than they already are, now being unable to shield and speed tank simultaneously (which is one of the more popular fittings).
Aside from that, the notion of Mid slots seems like a decent idea... but given the gravity of such an addition, that deserves a thread of its own. |

The notion of mid slots wont work. Technically, everything thats in "hi-slots" are modules that would be in "mid-slots" in EVE. The symbol for hi-slots is even the same as the symbol for EVE mid-slots. To put a comparison between the two, our light/heavy/sidearm slots are the hi-slots.
Also, if they want dual-tanking to be less optimal than picking a side, they need to give a hi-slot module to armor that boosts the passive regen rate of reppers, to act as their version of regulators, and make Amarr be more focused on armor. |

Put kincats in hi? No way, Make more CPU intensive and not so much on the PG, versions of the kin cats for the hi slots |

I currently do not see a mechanical drawback to the upcoming changes in tanking for 1.4 There may be things which are revealed in testing of course, I'm not claiming to be omniscient but on paper it looks solid enough that I would rather see how it plays out for a patch or two as opposed to chucking all that work in the bin to try something else which is equally as untested on TQ.
