I know its too far in to make such drastic changes to the game mechanics, but I still want to know how well received the idea would be.
First off, replacing the 'Stamina' Bar with an 'Energy' bar. This energy bar would power movement (from jumping to vaulting) just like the stamina bar, but it would also power items such as the repair tool, active scanner, and a tool that would recharge a suit's shields.
This would be done by the energy being part of the loadout's power grid. The suit would have its base capacitor capacity, and a base energy regeneration rate, but any leftover PG from a suit would go into improving the energy bar (each leftover unit would add n per second regeneration rate, and n*10 capacity). This would incentivise people to not overfill their loadouts.
Another suggestion is making use of the left over CPU much in the same way of the left over PG mentioned earlier. So any leftover CPU would go into improving the speed of things done, like reloading, reviving, and maybe running and jumping. Again, this would incentivise people to not overfill their loadouts. |

I take it you mean all this AND give jumping a set energy cost, right? The idea of jumping a wall and not being able to use my scanner immediately after would just be idiotic. Personally I would call it "Power" over "Energy" but that's cosmetics so I suppose it doesn't really matter what it's called. Having a separate item for charging shields would make shield vs armor more balanced but would shaft scouts as that means they must sacrifice EVEN MORE just to be able to survive falls that medium and heavy frames wouldn't really think about. To sacrifice my extenders, codebreakers, cardiacs, or uplinks for this would mean I quit as there is no point in playing anymore.
Then again if you meant that the energy would be consumed to charge shields then that ok I suppose

This is stupid. I don't want to have to rush through a bunch of enemy fire, to get to a pinned down buddy to repair him, only to find out that I don't have enough "energy" to help him any time soon. No. |

Burning less CPU/PG and equipping KinCats and Cardiacs would help with this but I see your point.
@OP: One already has to make sacrifices to get there play style the way they want it (or at least the way they can get it) and the idea of sacrificing even more to do so is kinda hurtful.

It's too complicated and adds far too much to think about in a fast paced FPS game. This sort of thing can be done with Eve because people have more time to think about what they're doing (it's called capacitors in Eve). Something similar will likely be added to vehicles at some point in the future but I can't see it ever being a thing for infantry. |
