The Skill Back Booster is described below by Major Lee High:
Quote: Got my respec and currently have no use of this but I would like some sort of option like this down the line!
After some thread feedback and thinking of design problems, something like this
Skillback Booster (3 days) - Fits into Passive Booster slot. Returns ~300,000 sp and only one skill can have it on at a time, as long as there are no skills that depend on it. You can't use the skill and lose it's bonuses once its active. If the booster timer expires before the skill points are returned, you lose all remaining skill points for that skill. Passive SP gains are disabled while this booster is active.
It seem a lot of you are forgetting about this suggestions very quickly and are constantly requesting respecs needlessly without even looking into this idea. In fact, there are actually a few of you (you know who you are) who are actually against this simply because you just don't care and just want your flavor-of-the-month fix.
This idea is a valid one and honestly I see it as the most fair there is. Keep in mind that I don't normally say this to an idea that somehow involves moving around SP considering that I'm among those who are adamantly against respecs unless of course I don't see any potential for FoTM abuse in the idea.
What the skill booster does is that it temporarily forces you to give up your passive gain in exchange for un-allocating SP at a slow and steady rate across a set period of time. Time that you could have used gaining SP passively (normal boosters not affected). Keep in mind that this is time that you will never get back while the skillback booster is active. Seems fair enough for me and it helps avoid the problem of FoTM abuse because it doesn't allow you to instantly swap a chunk of SP around on a whim.
Take it or leave it, folks. If you don't like the idea even if you're pro-respec, tough luck. This is the best idea there is and even some of us anti-respec folks are liking this idea. |

Once the market opens up, and once players are able to sell AUR stuff to other players for ISK, that won't matter. |

@Knight
The item trade part (at least the basic form of it) shouldn't take that long. I would say no later than mid next year assuming CCP figures out how to establish a basic industry of sorts first by then. That's just my generous estimate. Either way, despite how long it takes, it will happen eventually. |

Then CCP will have to give us those PVE matches to help clear drone infestations soon. Another way is to improve payouts in factional warfare matches and make the payouts proportional to the standings that the player has to the faction. |

this is a very solid idea. a pay-for-respec system is stupid and means "if you pay money you have no consequences"
this is a way to recoup for mistakes but it's not easy and does require a montary investment.

@Xender
Aur for Aur is highly unlikely.
And it is different in Eve Online.
There are players in Eve Online right now who are paying cash for AUR tokens and selling them for ISK in the player-run market. The same thing goes with PLEX (pilot license extensions) which allow players to pay for their subscriptions with ISK instead of cash (it's a deep system) and you can already buy and sell AUR items with ISK between players. |

I was for this until you stated that you only get 300k back and you lose all the rest at the end of the booster.
300k - Remaining SP in a skill - Passive SP gains for 3 days make the booster worthless on anything either below ~100k or greater than ~450k |

Disabling passive skill point accrual while using this booster is overkill. Also it would cost AUR, making it a pay to win feature. The reasonable people who are in favor for another respec aren't in favor of respecing your points whenever you want (even if it costs money and time), we simply want one single last respec when the other basic dropsuits and vehicles are out. |

Why not just have an AUR item that gives you a respec, but you have to give up 1/3 of your lifetime SP. That way it can't be abused by speccing into the FotM every new patch and people will have to really decide if 1/3 of their SP is worth it. |

Mostly this.
The SP degenerator is a step in the right direction, but it's not practical, and is actually self-destructive.
Why bother use it, when I can simply use a booster and start administering that SP where i want?
Then threatening to vanquish the remaining SP if the booster runs out of time? It's like your discouraging people from using it to begin with. So although this alternative is a step in the right direction, it is NOT a sound alternative yet. It needs some modification.
I would change it a significantly. It should be called an SP Neural Rerouter. Where it slowly transfers SP from one skill into another skill passively (but not occupying a booster slot). Should be able to cancel it OR reverse its polarity at anytime without penalty, so that as you're transfer-skilling into that next skill, and it doesn't seem to be functioning as you intended, you can start funneling SP back.
None of that disappearing SP nonsense. |
