I think it is time to implement, ranks in game, as we are mercenary corps, but even PMC's have ranks.
So how do I see it:
Well first of all is important who is who:
I will not apply any military designation that are used in our modern world by countries but a rank of effectiveness.
So maximum capacity of corporation in DUST 514 is 1300 men that is (10x5)+(50x5)+(200x5). This is players limit. We have directors and CEO's.
In non military time they are them, but on the battlefield, hierarchy is not just a reason to command but a MOTIVATION for players to grow in hierarchy position, to establish relations with their partners in corporation and to be promoted. This all is going to be if promotion inside corporation is made by CEO/Officer and directors.
To prevent that everyone will have a rank that CEO wants, or just I want that rank and ask CEO to give it to me, you may establish limit for each kind of ranks.
CEO - Colonel: So 1300 men in corp maximum means in military is a battalion that a man in rank of COLONEL can command. So maximum rank inside corporation is COLONEL for CEO while on battlefield.
Director - Lieutenant Colonel: Basically is a 2nd high rank in corporation while in the field. Limit of director's should be put for minimum needs.
The rest we have just mercenaries and here is more of a mess, so I will go from down below.
Fresh player/Academy - Cadet: As a new player enters he becomes a cadet as he enters ACADEMY where he first meets with the game.
Academy out - Recruit: So after finishing academy he/she becomes recruit and is able to enter any corporation wanted, so you must put a restriction for cadets not entering any corporation until Academy is finished.
And here we have situations. Many great big corps create there own academy corps where they train new guys. It could be great if academy could be established by game rules like additional infrastructure in mother-corp or even better you could enter it as a PC conquest map, so to have academy corporation you must posses a planet and protect it month I think until it become unclaimable and then you can create Academy. Academy mut have all kinds of maps so you need to posses whole planet, it doesn't matter if it is snow, barren or else. Having this academy corp players can unite there to train there abilities against each other having common chatter to connect between team to explain and teach recruits. This will more likely to bring more players inside.
So a recruit can enter it or get in a normal corp but what if recruiter wants to create his own corporation?
Well he does that but becomes CEO in a smallest officer rank possible which is second lieutenant and achieving rank as his corporations grows until colonel. So if you have like 200 men corporation you will be in a rank of Major. Numbers are taken from Chain of Command. I'll show them down below.
So after recruit enters academy if he wants he becomes
Recruiter Cadet: While in Corp academy.
While in corp academy he can posses three ranks: Recruiter Cadet, Private, Private First Class, this designation is Or-2 and or-3 NATO that has equivalents outside NATO too.
All this ranks can be given only by officers beginning from Second Lieutenant.
Only responsible for the education and training inside academy corporation can give ranks, but higher rank officer can review those statements if necessary.
Specialist:
After finishing corp academy which decides training officer. Player achieves this rank and is transferred into main corp becoming it's member.
Sergeant:
This enlisted rank can be given to a player if he or she shows leader skill and tactical performance on battlefield which enables him/her to be a squad leader on public or PC.
Lieutenant:
Second Lt. is lowest officer rank and is given to training officer and other roles in corp that can be created in future of game. To become LT. you need to be a sergeant and renter academy for training by high command which decides strategy and politics of corporation in the world of New Eden. So becoming LT. first class you end academy and ready to manage academy on free from battle time.
Captain and Major: They are last non-director roles that will be able to decide resignation, lowering or giving someones rank, for example on the battlefield officer was on his plan and he gets punished and stuff, you can expel him or lower his rank. CEO and directors can do the same about Captain and major.
I need more space but I'll end up here my Part 1 and I will continue on Part 2.
I say that this will improve squad making and if someone bugs out the higher rank player will take the lead, because he was trained.
What about those that didn't pass the academy in their corp? Well this create an elite in game soldiers and those that will be able to grow to become elite of mercenaries in New Eden. It will create more interest and it will take a long time for people to become what they want to. EVE is 10 years old and Dust must wide horizons too.
In Part 2, I will touch the way of squad, matchmaking and transfers of players between corps and establishing own corps considering ranking and I ll add chain of command list.
Say your opinion and if you have some ideas tell me.
i thank those that read whole stuff. I am just like you, want to make this game better because I like it even with all bugs and stuff. I watch further than what game is today.
In a few days I'll make Part 2.

Basically the CEO can bestow any rank to anyone, than each rank after that can give the ranks below that rank.
Only sergeants could be squad leaders, and the lowest rank can resign people?
And if you leave the corp your in and start your own corp you get ranked as a Major, but can't be a squad leader until you get more people in your corp?
This is confusing... Mercs don't need ranks, Meeko's idea of giving titles that don't really mean anything other than their value to the corp would be better.
Well as I said there is not much space to write so I resumed a lot of things.
Sergeants are the first rank possible to take squad lead. Because each new rank cumulates abilities from previous, plus new ones.
No you get ranked specifically to quantity of members your corp posses.
Yes each race may have other designation for a rank, that is not the point.
I gave a small specification that officer ranks can resign enlisted mates or officers if in lower rank.
Seems a bit confusing but I will clarify points later.

Allow us to give corp mates special title that mean nothing.
An Amarr Corp may want to give the Corp members titles like "Knight" and "Paladin or some other stuff.
A Cal Corp may want to give people titles like "Manager" or "Sercurity Guard" and the like.
This isn't quite needed if we could do that.
For those that see this as useless petty things you always may stay in lowest rank possible and just play, because you are not alone in this game and others might want this improvements. Don't be egoistic, if you don't like, stay in the bottom and exist as you want. |

Even if it is coming soon I hope they will be not just titles but relative to roles responsibilities. |

Seems a bit confusing but I will clarify points later. It's a lot confusing. So if a player is, lets say the second highest rank in their current corp and then starts a new corp and is bumped back down to the lowest rank for starting a new corp, he'd be able to give higher ranks than his? He'd basically reset his rank, removing any cumulative effects from when he was in his previous corp. If he only had a 6 man corp none of them could be in a squad together unless the CEO was able to make someone a Sergeant, and than the CEO could get booted from his own corp just because some new guy was like "Make me a Sergeant! I'm good!" And, while it would be cool for the whole "don't trust anyone" meta game, nothing would stop a plant from joining a corp on dust, making his way to the top (or near top), and than kick everyone out only to steal everything... or if someone has a bad day that isn't the CEO he could remove any player that's ranked lower than him.
And for this, in game rules must be created to control possible through outs like this. About corporation, yes losing your possibilities as field officer but not CEO, as CEO you will obtain more, but as field leader you will have to build your own way and to search supporters that can help you in your goal. You can have support from your previous corp in ally, I'll specify that ranking structure in Part 2. Lowest rank for CEO that has a corp of minimum skill needed is ten members so, first lieutenant will be the highest rank and then the more players you get the more you will grow, and while Lt. you can give others SGT. rank for squad lead. Because the highest rank presented on battlefield is leader, that is like CCP wants to make possible for directors to kick players from PC room that are not needed. You can be in squad and not being a squad leader even if you are a higher rank player but if you want you an take it if necessary. Nobody can expel you from your own corp. You established it basic rules exist, you can create others. People that like you will follow that don't agree can' take you down and are likely to leave. Making people stay and accept your vision is what called leadership. |

Well I based mine on EVE ranking but, this is not only contributing while in battle but outside too. Academy and PC... But mercenaries are not pilots even if in corp. There might be some misunderstanding in EVE/Dust corps having different rankings, so we must adapt ranking to both sides to make games even more fused, but now I am directed on Dust. |

That is probably whole my point about ranking, players will more likely to join a good standing corp seeing great players in it. Leaders harshness must be ensured too because I won't give someone a rank just if they want it, they must deserve it. How can I see it? Statistics of each player. |

I think ranks should stay in corp, it'd be too easy for someone to start a corp and abuse the title power.
That is right, I spoked a up the comments, players that start new corps get their lowest officer rank and gain another one amassing new members, and some regulation rules should be created to for no abuse. I got some ideas about it and will put them in Part 2. |

the funny thing about most ranks i see in game is that most ppl look at a player with a low rank... think the match will be easy..
and then get their asses kicked afterwards for taunting...
it may be funny at most times buts its not a something important for dust 514...
pve should come first..
you are completely right in this case pvd and ranks must exist to train better then academy, as a newbie prefers to run a space market chasing pirate in a pvd which will bring his interest into game, story, universe and society then dying of "hardened the **** up" players who catch lulz scumming on newbies in academy on their alts. For those who know nothing about story and scandals in eve ccp world this is more likely saying nothing, but I am not The Mittani to speak about it, I just don't care until it touches me. Things we speak about less likely to happen as "CPM" is one that brings ideas and they give a bit of a sh..t to what dust players say and ask. So for ranks to come in it will be needed like 2 years for sure. It reminds be corporation decals on ships they talked about on one fanfest and they implemented it like four years later. On Incarna time I think. Same will be to ranks, if you think CCP is just a game developer like others, oh no boys and girls, it will take your life to see the end. |
