A prime example of damage bleed through can be found in no other series perfectly, other then the halo series.
A example of damage bleed through is when a player is shot by a shot gun, or a rocket launcher, or even a sniper. But not dealing a killing blow to the target. There was also a massive argument in Halo:reach about damage bleed when it concerned the utility weapons. (AR, DMR,NR,repeater, ect ect ect.) When halo Reach came out, damage bleed was completely removed from these weapons. which made the weapons function like such.
Player 1 has 20 shields left, and is hit with an attack that deals 40 damage. Player 1's shields absorbs all of the damage, and are disabled for a time. His actual health absorbs 0 damage.
Later on in Reach's life, this was alter by 343 which allowed that 40 damage attack to deal 20 damage to the player's shields, and 20 to his base health, or deal an instant death head shot if the attack was dealt to the head area.
damage bleed IS in dust, but there are more factors that also need to be considered as well. Namely the efficiency of weapons when used to counter shields, and armor.
Will a scrambler shot that deals 40 damage to shields also bleed into the armor WITH that 20% efficient when the player hit only has 20 shields left? Or will the other half of the damage of that shot deal less damage once it bleeds into the armor? or wil lthe armor just absorb the weapons default damage that is shown in it's stats? No one has asked about this sort of thing, and it IS a more complex factor in FPS games, so It is excusable that it has never been brought up. (or at least I don't think it has....)
Does it apply to a mass driver and it's explosive damage? will half a mass driver shot deal more damage to armor if it's initial contact was with shields? or will the less efficient damage bleed into armor with no bonus from actually bleeding into the armor?
this is a foggy area, and will require testing from both the developers, and the players. |

Heinz Doofenshertz wrote:The fun part is, CCP has been dealing with damage bleed for 10+ years, it's there it functions properly and in my opinion it works.
Example time:
you are at the edge of a grenade explosion, you have 40 points of shield remaining and the nade does 80 points of dmg. now the shield will eat 48 points of that dmg and your armor will take 38.4
Why damage traits, shields take less dmg from explosives and armor takes more, 20% to be exact.
I hope this helps. EVE, yes is probably has all of that. But does Dust have it? it is a clearly different game that relies a set of different numerals and things to make it work. |
