My sister who is in the US Army and recently finished training as a combat medic is about to get deployed tomorrow at 5am to Afghanistan for the next 9 months.

Considering that almost half of my relatives along with my dad, and grandpa (passed away) were in the military in the past, we all know how terrifying it can be to get deployed especially into a country that doesn't really like Americans. All I can do right now is just try to give my sister some emotional support as I hear her over the phone packing her bags right now. She sounded worried and bit scared judging by the inflection of her voice as this is her first time in her life getting deployed.

Since one of my uncles is still working with the military even after retiring from a 20-year service, we received word that my sister will be put into one of the most battle-hardened infantry groups in the history of the US Army. Thankfully these guys know what they are doing as their history dates back even to World War I. That said, I am confident they will protect my sister to the best of their abilities while my sister takes care of them to the best of her abilities as a combat medic.

Thankfully, the war in Afghanistan is already close to completely winding down and most of the US soldiers still there are just helping the locals learn to police themselves.

Now that this is happening, it makes me wonder how others have had to deal with seeing their loved ones go to war. Especially back in 2001 and 2003 when things were really bad back then.
