Disclaimer: I am a mass driver user. Have been since chromosome and fought in the trenches to get the mass driver fixed after being nerfed. I am writing this topic because I feel that the mass driver variant standard and breach, do not comply with what the definition of these are. I am writing to get the input from the mass driver community and strongly urge people to avoid, the mass driver is OP, talk. Furthermore I want to apologize to mass driver users everywhere if you feel this post is wrong and hope you will submit your input on how this makes or does not make sense.
I am here to discuss the inconsistencies in between the standard and breach variants and how this should be addressed to eliminate the wrongful use of the weapon.
The first thing that should be clarified is the weapon variants. These being classified as standard, assault and breach all have different stats for different uses. These uses are defined as follows:
- Standard: The main weapon. This weapon has the base stats of the weapon. It is the median between high damage low rate of fire and or low damage and high rate of fire. It sets the standard by which all weapons of its type will be manipulated and altered to fit their specified variant role.
- Breach: This weapon a weapon variant that has a High damage output per shot but has a slow rate fire. Breach weapons should be considered the one to hit first and hit hardest while maybe not having the highest damage per second. These weapons are considered ALPHA weapons that should depend on the ALPHA damage and not sustained fire.
- Assault: The assault variant is the one used to harass the enemy. It is a weapon meant for sustained damage dealing and consequently contains the highest rate of fire while not having the highest damage output per shot.
Now that the different variants have been explained, it is time to understand how this affects the mass driver. The mass driver has two additional stats compared to our regular run of the mill point and shoot weapons. These are splash radius and splash damage. Splash radius is handled in accord to these variant rules; splash radius is increased for the assault variant and decreased for the breach variant; but what about the splash damage? Splash damage is handled a bit different. The splash damage for the assault variant is lowered as it should be but the splash damage of the breach is also lower than that of the standard variant. This causes a problem. The standard variant is being used as a breach/slayer weapon.
It is my opinion that the mass driver damage for the standard and breach variants should be switch.
Example:
standard mass driver explosion damage is 116 and breach variant explosion damage is 81.
These two should be switched. |

mass driver is of no issue.
the splash damage on the other hand is.... the damage on shield is barely any differant then it is on armor. especially the advanced lvl and proto lvl. other then this all hail the mass driver user i just think the splash shouldnt kill shields so fast. its the same as the flaylock used to be and it just needs a tiny tweak not a giant nerf as people are saying.

LOL yes I do; but that isn' t my main weapon.
P.S. I apologize if you where one of my victims with the forge gun. I use it whene a) here are vehicles and my team doesnt have av or B) if my oponnent is a strong one and I don't have a chance to kill him with my standard sits and don't have any backup.

Yes that small tweek is explained. I hope you read the post to understand that I as a mass driver user ( main weapon), think that the splash damage of the breach should be switch with the splash damage of the regular mass driver. That way the breach would do 121 splash damage and the regular 85 splash damage.
This post is not about how mass drivers should be "fixed" because they are fine as is. This post is about hw the breach mass driver and that standard mass driver have their stats wrong. |

Breach weapons have lower splash damage values because they are meant to be even more effective against vehicles and direct hits as they do a ton of damage as long as you're accurate. Vehicles are easier to get direct hits with, so this makes the most sense for the mass driver.
The breach mass driver is an effective light AV weapon. I've taken out armor tanks with it no problem.
Other breach weapons are designed with headshots in mind, or your ability to keep the bullets hitting the target. They do a ton of damage already, and the headshot bonus makes the weapon even deadlier. |

Breach MD makes sense- the splash is weak so you don't kill yourself in CQC. |
