To start of I'll say that the assault dropship feels just right where it is. When they get proto modules/vehicles they'll certainly be able to survive AV, and a speed tanked assault dropship can last entire matches right now.
As for new dropships I'd like to see a strict transport dropship. Lets call it the Synergy Transport Dropship! Here is the idea. Instead of using high altitude drops or ballistic drops to place infantry on the ground without risking your dropship and friends too much, this dropship travels fast and deploys a shield bubble when its near the ground that protects infantry getting out. It lasts long enough to let the squad get out and get oriented.
DROPSHIP KEY POINTS -Dropship is fast. -roughly 1200 HP total (not including modules). -NO turrets. -6 passengers. -Built module, similar to logi LAV shield rep. This is the shield bubble. -Combined with other support modules it can give infantry a good boost during battle
SHIELD BUBBLE KEY POINTS -Centered on dropship -Only deploys near ground. -Surrounds dropship with enough room to cover infantry that get out. -800 HP, this is enough to allow a complete landing of the dropship, and allows squad members to get oriented before starting their attack. -Lasts 8 seconds or until destroyed. 20 second cooldown. -Cannot shoot through bubble on either side.
Possible dropship skill bonuses. +5% bubble HP per level (Amarr?)
+1 armour/shield rep per second per level. This effect is inside the bubble. (Caldari/gallente?)
+5% bubble recharge time reduction per level (Minmatar?)

Thank you good sir, and especially for admitting to the value of this despite its ability to make you rage. Unlike a bunch of AR users I know. |

Arc-08 wrote:key word assault dropships CAN last entire matches, but most often they don't. especially with all the forge guns that can 2 shot great dropships, and 1 shot all the others.
Key point is that when (when!?) dropships and all other vehicles/vehicle modules finally scale up to access advanced and proto levels, I think they will be in a good place. |

would the bubble protect the dropship as well? will the shield require a hit from the central craft (dropship) or will hitting it anywhere do? love the idea, and with an implementation of WP for insertion into heavy fire, this could work out for pilots, but we should implement the idea into the existing logistics dropship, I do not want to have a thousand variants to try and make ships use-able.
Any hit to the bubble decreases its HP. The bubble is like a wall that infantry can move through and its centered around the dropship, so it would protect the dropship as well. I'm not sure the idea would fit a logistics dropship though, because they are slow and already have a built in CRU. This can be good for high altitude drop and the like, but not fore getting infantry that are already alive from place to place and back again.

This can be good for high altitude drop and the like, but not fore getting infantry that are already alive from place to place and back again. but in theory, any dropship is built around the idea that it is to insert and extract players into any hot zone. providing this to the logi-dropship, you could come from a low altitude hover (behind buildings and hills) activate the bubble by the objective, then give the mercs a few moments to secure the ground, then the logi ship can be protected by the players on the ground, until the objective is capped, with the turrets now running support fire (not as a killing machine) then the players could load back in, and repeat at the new objective. this has always been my vision of the logistics dropship, and this could finally be the thing that makes it worth the isk
I was thinking of this transport dropship as no guns, really fast, inserting troops and moving to the next group that needs extraction, constantly shuffling about the map giving transport to squads in needs instead of sticking around to assist. On the other hand both would be possible if instead the bubble being built into the transport dropship, it was a module.
