Since Dust 514 loads through our hard drives and the lack of PS3's RAM(512). Is there a significant boost in performance between SSD and HDD? |

I haven't done it myself but I remember a thread where a lot of people said it helped a **** tonne. Try using the search function if you want to find it.
Edit: I found the thread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=45408 |

Anyone saying yes is just fooling himself. The PS3 doesn't know how to use a SSD right, so the performance boost is minor. They also die quicker because the PS3 doesn't have software modern PC's have that helps SSD's last longer. Just get a HDD with 7200 RPM. The PS3 comes with a 5400 RPM HDD. |

PS3 has a SATA 1 port. The difference between a 7200rpm drive and a SSD is not a huge gap because of this bottleneck. But you'll benefit more from the fact the SSD doesn't need to spin up and is obviously faster than a HD.
If you're able to get a cheap 60-120gig SSD, I'd say go for it. I have a referb 60gig SSD I plugged into mine and the difference is clearly seen. Should you expect some ungodly performance boost? No, it's sata1, but the difference is there. Don't be swayed by the naysayers. |

Yea i thought so as well, can't utilise SSD But won't 7200 RPM will just overheat much?(i'm still using 1st gen 60gb fat) |

Shhh, don't tell him about the advantages, let him be in his own world where apparently firmware and software can't be updated. ;) |

Also, the 500gigs is nice. |

I'm using a hybrid drive and i'm typically on the field and moving before anyone else on my team has spawned. All the pro teams encourage it - it's a 5 to 10 second advantage at the beginning of the match that the other team cannot counter.
In fact, SSD is OP.
Also made a big difference in the smoothness of the game for me. |
