Hi guys,
Been sometime since I played Dust514. Played it in BETA but then my ps3 died and got it replaced after 4 months I only installed it again recently and wanted some info about the Corporations and Squads in this game.
Please provide relevant info in a lucid manner as I'm quite the noob.
1. What is a Corporation? What advantages does being a member of one entail? (Can I NOT be in any corp?)
2. What is a Squad? How different is it from a Corp. ? and in what way? (Can you form squads with frends from different Corps?)
3. I was part of Algintal Core and now joined Translegio upon invitation. Tbh, dunno how my choice affects anything. It said 'Pending Insurance..." something upon joining the new Corp. Didn't even know I was in a Corp until I joined a new one.
Is there a list where the Corps are ranked based on their battles/wars etc in terms of Victory/Defeat ?
The questions may seem noobish to the average player who's been dusting for a while now and may be provoked to project his rage at this post. But I appreciate all your responses nonetheless, in whatever form they might come.
I could use Google to find most of this info perhaps but my queries resulted in info about some Corps themselves but not exactly clear on answering the Qs I pose here. Sure, I could wade through a ton of data sifting info from the pages but I prefer an answer here on the forums to doing that. Please answer them so in the future I could help a noob with similar Qs.
Thanks for reading and your patience. |

Corps are sometimes compared to clans, or guilds from other games, but are a bit different in New Eden, as many of the are more focused on objective then just hanging out, though it is different from corp to corp. and both casual and very serious corps exsist and thrive in New Eden. A step above is alliances, which is a group of corps working together, and then more meta is coalitions, but those are not recognized mechanicly in game.
Squads are more free flowing groups that can easily be joined or left on a whim. They are exactly like squads or groups in any other mmo out there.
No you can not, not be in a corp. if you are not in a player corp you will be in a npc corp, jumping corps too often will give you a bad rep because corp histories are tracked, and used in New Eden.
What do you get from being in a player corp, a stable group to squad with, structure, or not depending on the corp, some provide finacial assistance, others training and advice, others just offer a place to be.
Over all, Corps are a good thing, getting into a player corp that fits your style will make or break the game for alot of people, because everyone has more fun when playing games with friends.
EDIT: to give a great example of normal corp recruiting for New Eden see this http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20120625/ |

Thanks Heinz. Your reply was clear and to the point.
So, Corporation is like a huge company you ultimately work for assisting in achieving their objectives by one means or another directly or indirectly. A squad, on the other hand, is a group of soldiers you join to kill n loot while ultimately aligning your actions with your Corp's objectives....if not 'align' then at least making sure they're not in total contrast to what your Corp stands for.
Did I get it right? |

A corp is your team.
A squad is the starting line-up
...more or less
Your corporation is a group of mercs who fight under the same banner. Casual or hardcore, they all play under the corp name which they represent.
Squads are merely groups of up to six players that you can put together on a per-match basis which you can communicate with and coordinate on-field tactics with on a dedicated chat channel. So, with voice chat active, instead of listening to your entire team of 16 players yelling at eachother, you can activate your squad channel and only you and your 5 squad-mates can communicate with eachother.
Another benefit of the squad is once it accumulates a total of 2,500 war points between all mercs in the squad, the squad leader is then able to call in a devastating orbital strike. |

Thanks man. That cleared it up.
Also, Orbital Strike seals the deal for the 'hesitant-to-enter-the-game' me. |
