First background: - For lore reasons missile weapons aren't used in real starship Orbital Strikes (later SS-OB). - SS-OBs are rarely used - Warbarge Precision Strikes (later WB-PS) are superior to SS-OBs because they are instantaneous. This WB-PSs' huge advantage trumps any power SS-OBs might have. - Having the 'warning effect' before orbital cannons fire onto ground is somewhat silly
[SUGGESTION:] OB: Change Warbarge Precision Strike into delayed missile volley * Effectively nerfs SB-PSs as it would add delay * having the warning effect makes a bit better sense for incoming homing missiles coming to that location * Makes the real SS-OBs competitive in delivery speed * Adds the option to remove the warning effect from SS-OBs, if wanted, to further incentivise the use of SS-OBs * Lorewise makes more sense for War Barge to deliver missiles; currently it is a bit silly if War Barge is always perfectly geosyncronous to deliver cannon strikes straight from above * Gives us missiles volleys into game. Those could be tuned into wide-area low damage volleys if wanted (contra tank busting free kills)
Bonus: creates a use for AA tanks and installations to diminish the effect of the 'free' WB-OBs |

Actually, lore wise, using anything but a missile is like firing off bombs from a dive bomber. ANyways, missiles imo, as you said would insta-kill everything, but in a giant area.I'd rather not. |

Nah, not every missile has to be a nuke. Devs can choose the power level as this is their game.

Orbitals are fine. It sucks being hit, but at least the warning lets the players know to bite their pillows in advance.
Imagine if you had no warning one was coming until you were dead. Sure, you'd think it's fun if you're putting them on the enemy, but think of it from the losing side. It's not fun. The only time I ever was happy about being orbitaled was when I first unlocked my Thale's, and went 45-1. That 1 was an orbital called to kill me specifically.
As for orbital missile bombardments, I'm sure the planets we fight over have some sort of Anti-Invasion weaponry and such. The travel time for a missile from orbit would be quite a significant delay, and it would be wide open to be shot out of the sky before it came in.
In short, orbitals are fine. I have little idea on the Lore of EVE/Dust, due to only being a month in and not really happy with how some things are in this game so far, but let's keep it simple until we get the basic kinks out of the machine first. Learn to crawl before we run. |

Okay, so the warning siren must be always on.
On the war barge thingy, War Barges ARE in such low orbit or in high atmosphere already - that's where the bolases and vehicles come from! (ETA 15s for a vehicle, nowadays even less).
So my suggestion for missiles are still on the table. Thanks for feedback. |

Those things appear out of thin air and disappear into thin air. I'm an EVE Noob, but that looks like basic BEAM ME UP SCOTTY tech.
From a pure gameplay stance, silencing orbitals is NOT a good idea. There's a few times where I've experienced them due to the sound glitch, and it is one of the most frustrating things in this game. Being killed by a Minja or a Sniper is one thing, having your entire squad obliterated due to something you had no warning about is another. |

The Bolases 'materializing' is most likely their cloak coming off.
Everyone already agreed here that the MUST be a warning indication for incoming bombardment of any sort. |
