CCP could you possibly provide a bare bones layered blueprint for the outposts? It would provide for a much better opportunity for Strategy building.
The visually appealing maps are great for the rooftop view and outer areas, but a layered blueprint would show the bare bones of the ins and outs of each outpost.
I would also think this wouldn't be hard to accomplish seeing as you had to draw up the schematics for the bare bones of each map anyway to get it into code. So for the sake of us strategists can u provide us with layered blueprints? |

I definitely want this. The challenge though may include the fact that LogicLoop says they have to divert a map designer from working on new maps to get us pictures of existing maps.
Perhaps we would be better off convincing CCP to release the models themselves in some form, to allow the community to fill in the gap, as it often has done so excellently in EVE Online's history. (And isn't there a way we can access ship models for EVE already?) |

Actually it doesn't quite work out that way. When we design the levels we begin with a 2d layout. Then it goes into a block out process by the level designers. After that, the artists beautify it. Over the course of development of the outposts things change from the original 2d layout. So it would have to be re-done entirely to have a "blueprint" type of map. |

Loopy, create meshes of the levels + structures, similar to what we see on the warbarge prior to deploying to theater.....
...and then get those used in the warbarge :) |

I know there were plans to do that at some point. I do not know if they plan to or not anymore. It is not a high priority for us at this time though obviously. I'd love to see it as well. =D |

If there was any way to get players access to those models, I think the players could do a lot for you, in terms of providing awesome maps.
(Seriously, the number one reason EVE works as a game, is because data is in the hands of players to work with.) |

The 2d layout is also not something we would share with the public as a official form of map. It is usually fairly quick and dirty from photoshop with basic shapes and colors. Then it goes into a block out process by the level designers. After that, the artists beautify it. Over the course of development of the outposts things change from the original 2d layout. So it would have to be re-done entirely to have a "blueprint" type of map. Here you can see I discuss the entire process of outpost development from a level designer position. And even in those images, especially the final image, their are portions that are gone from the map entirely.
Your texture artists must hate you. |
