for the first time since I started playing dust I actually felt bad about a redline, the poor players we were up against couldn't of been out of the academy for more then a few games, they didn't even know how to strafe, one guy stood their trying to find the letter.
their whole team had a collective experience pool of about 25 minutes, and of course they were up against every pro pub stomper in the game.
I actually felt so bad for them I put down my gun and simply watched the battle, militia suit after militia suit was being mowed down by mass drivers and charge rifles and forge guns, they couldn't even spawn in without being murdered.
I think you done messed up on the academy changed |

You know I have felt that same way. Not often mind but a few times.
I came to the conclusion CCP must be happy to mess around with the noobs. Possibly they get a sense of enjoyment out of messing around with people. They do make EVE and Dust ... |

I'd like to see more done fore new players. Keeping newer players in the academy longer would be a start. |

Looks like a Catch-22.
High WP threshold and experience people go greif inside academy exploiting weapons or methods found in regular games. Low WP at 400 on a Domination map and new players are fed to the wolves.
Starting to think the people who said a segment of this community were going to ruin the game had it figured out. |

I agree, I went into a battle and saw nothing but starter corps. It was painful to watch.
You guys lowered the WP cap way too much. I think it should be at least 25 K, and to really get them prepared....god. Adopt the trainer ideas some of us have been posting.
I was playing on an alt to try and reconfigure some stuff for my main, it helps me to think, and watched several of the newer players drop out of battle after battle. |

I still vote for the corps to nominate someone to do battle training for new players. I started a thread on it and still support it.
This...is wrong. |

I think the solution is easy. I know its not terribly popular and it is somewhat un-evelike but we need some sort of class / graded matchmaking system. Have say;
-Basic level - only militia and basic gear permitted
-Advanced - Militia, basic and advanced level
-Full / Open - Where the real men play everything goes.
Obviously you can all come up with adjustments and better names but the basic idea is there. Or new characters can continue to be ground out like mince meat and leave the game shortly after. |

Spent all day going out of the way to grab new players to squad-up from local chat. Nobody in there knows what's going on cuz they played one round in the Academy & now they're clueless in Pubs. It was like babysitting with machine guns. Poor guys. I say if you feel bad for any freaked out new players encourage them to squad-up & do your best to convince them it won't be so bad for them in a month or two. That is all. Eriknaught out. END TRANSMISSION. |

I'm thinking they're hoping their new matchmaker will resolve the problems with new players being outclassed. If they get it wrong though... |

It think the change to BA is about increasing the number of players in the general, non-acadamy pool, so when match making is added in it has more to work with. Also match making will have more players added at a more frequent pace. The trouble really is that Dust has a low player count and a large amount of beta era players with high SP.
From that, the problem isn't the existence of PRO gear, or the non-existence of STD and MLT only modes. The problem is the grind to PRO is very, very long and filled with the real potential of starting at least partially over if your suit, weapon, or vehicle is rebalanced.
Increasing the cost of PRO gear might limit the number of players who run it in PUB matches, but at the same time it's going to make it harder on a financial level for corps and alliances to get into or stay active in PC. Then the player base is not large enough to support X gear only modes. I think reworking either the skilltree or the SP cap would be a better approach. Personally I'm leaning toward an increased SP cap with a tiered system so the higher a players SP the more slowly it accrues. |

Build a safety net for the noobs and the griefers will exploit it, Academy had a terribly bad first impression of the game anyway.
At least now a new player will see a healthy population of pubs right away, and much less waiting.

I played some games yesterday and it was a horrible massacre each time. At first, I was confused about all the new names. After I parked my tank beside the Null Cannon, I realized something was wrong. People werde ignoring me er shooting with their militia AR on me. Most of them where standing still and aiming for my infantry. At one point the combat line moved and I was shooting those red dots in their back with my railgun.
Still, lost 4 tanks due to being totally overextended, but I have no experience on such games. |

CCP dropped the ball on this one. The Academy needs to be longer in time spent not shorter. There should be an option to stay at the Academy for a longer period.
One of the reasons I have an alt, was so I could go through the old academy a second time. Just to learn enough to survive briefly, in pub matches. |

Forums here are so dramatic, I could pub all day an never see a proto squad.
There is noobs, super noobs, leet noobs, try hard noobs, and clueless noobs, that makes up about 80% of pubs.
I hover over my teamates ALL the time to check dropsuit hp, I see tons of new fish... TONS
today its even more apparent, I seen so many AUR weapons today on dragons flys its not even funny..

Noob in Militia =/= Pro in Militia. Passive skills exist for a reason. They would get stomped anyway. |

This is a common idea. I think everyone will migrate to the tier where people die the easiest. Let's avoid making DUST exactly like CoD where people fall over from a slight breeze.
What to do? Introduce PVE as a way for players to earn some SP / ISK and let them fight drones / complete missions. Put real rewards in PVP instant battles, FW, and PC. If CCP wants more new players to stick around there has to be a place for them to go where they aren't getting their potatoes pushed in every time they want to play. Most FPS have some sort of single player where you can at least figure out what stuff does, squeeze off a few rounds in safety.
