I have noticed that basic frame suits are more expensive than racial variants at the same level. For example an advanced Minmatar light frame suit is almost twice as expensive as an advanced Minmatar scout suit. From a balance perspective this makes no sense and I would think it should be reversed.
The basic frame suits have no racial bonus and are more likely used by new players with less SP. So new players have to pay more for their fittings than veterans. I would think the racial suits would come at a premium considering the advanced tech or whatever that gives the bonuses. It doesn't make sense that you get more for less.
Am I missing something? Is this pricing working as intended? Am I going to get hate mail from proto stompers?

The Role Based Suits require a lot more SP investment. |

All better equipment requires more SP, but you still have to pay more for it with ISK. Imagine if a Duvolle AR was cheaper than a GEK. |

I've pointed this out and was told the same.
"They're harder to get so they should be cheaper."
Which makes no sense as every other item in a tiered progression gets more expensive as it gets better. |

I still feel role based suits should be cheaper. Granted, perhaps the gap should be more narrow. |

they may have bonuses but it gives incentive to spec beyond basic suits. Why get a proto special suit when I can go basic for half the SP? "for the bonus!" Well, I don't use that anyway, and basics are cheaper. |

I imagine this will never be a popular idea because veterans with racial suits don't want the prices to go up. Hell I use them and would cringe if all of my fittings went up in price by 10k or so. But I would still gladly use racial suits for their bonuses.
Every time I look at the suit prices in the market it seems more like a pricing error than an intended feature. No other item in the game behaves like this. My guess is that everyone keeps quiet because it works to their favor.
Would people be opposed to matching prices between basic and racial? So a racial advanced only benefited from the racial bonus and cost as much as the basic advanced?

Yes, it goes against a lot of other things, however, it should not be switched. People shouldn't be using racial basic stuits as a baseline over the specialized versions (especially if they have the skill for the specialized version). At most, lower the cost of the racial suits somewhat. |

If you think about it, basic frames are more flexible than specialized suits, so you can say you pay more for the flexibility. |

It's meant to encourage players to specialize. Spending more or even the same amount of ISK for a slight perk advantage when you already have to dump so much more SP into the suite (not to mention you have to get basic suites to 3 first) is just not fair.
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST. |

Are you saying that the flexibility of the basic frame suits makes them more valuable than the specialized racial variants? Do you think many people choose not to skill into the specialized suits because they think the basic frames are better? Do you choose to pay more for that flexibility?
I think the Amarr heavy has a laser bonus which is kind of pointless for the majority of heavy users, but that is a different problem in itself. The other racial bonuses tend to be pretty significant.
I think this does bring up a valid issue that logistic users have no choice but to skill into specialized suits so they have no option to use the generic medium frame suits if they want to do that role. A price increase would be mandatory for them. Any other class can choose to run basic or specialized depending on their needs. |
